I vote for enamel. I believe( so no way I can be wrong )it is more durable and gives a gloss if desired easily.

Haven't tried it but past experience indicates that lacquer tends to dissolve a lot of things. Lacquer can be rubbed out with polishing compound for a smoother finish. I would check with a small piece of scrap foam to see if it is lacquer resistant. Assume you are going to sheet the foam first.

Depends on your capabilities!!

Assuming you have spray equipment and you want the highest quality/ durable shine --automotive acrylic enamels or basecoat/clearcote systems are far superior with unlimited color selection

Lacquers are a pain but if you are modeling a WWII fighter or golden age aircraft they will give you a more realistic finish(obviously because lacquers is all they had in the 30's and 40's..acrylics and urethanes arrive much later)

They do have acrylic lacquers atr automotive paint supplies, however I understand they are a more brittle finish and ding easier than the enamels---check on that for yourself!! That was my understanding!!
