Default Homebuild CG machine

I know someone has the link out there, and I would too if I'd learn to bookmark the things I think I might need. Not too long ago I happened across a website where a guy had a bunch of tips on how to build stuff like wing jigs and CG machines. Well, unfortunately I cannot find that website right now and I'd really like to. I've seen tons of sites showing how to make one that hangs from your ceiling and you use rope, but this one was made from wood and arrow shafts and looked a LOT like a certain name brand balancing tool. If anyone out there happens to have this link, I would appreciate it. Sorry I don't have better info to go on.

Default Cg Machine

In reguard to your wanting to make a CG machine. I used a 2X6 and cut two squares measuring 6"X6". In the center drill a hole in each of the 6"X6" pieces so that a pencil will fit tightly into the holes. Whala you have a Cg machine that has padding on each end (erasers).

Works great for me.

This is what you are looking for. This has a construction article for the "Tinker Toy Balance Jig", named for the way that Tinker Toy's were assembled with dowels in drilled holes. There are construction articles for a lot of other useful tools and field equipment.

Default just use a loop of rope

keep it simple man. No need to build anything. Way more accurate than any pegs, posts etc etc etc

I thought the $23.00 for the GP C.G. Machine was worth it....
No need to build it.

The accurate way that I found to balance a plane is to lift it from the horizontal position on its CG points with two fingers to see it drops nose or tail, then you can add weight accordingly to get correct balance. I have tried hanging my planes from the ceiling as it was mentioned in the post above , put on the useless GP C.G. machine but nothing has worked more accurately as the method I mentioned.here. Keep it simple

I use the "dowels and erasers and a 2x6" balancer. I put balance marks of contrasting monokote on the wing and go from there.

Setting the C of G has to be an enjoyable experience or your just not going to have the veal to do it right. So here is what I do. Remove two beer from fridge. Explain to wife how you need the beer for your hobby. You need the bottles only so drink the beer. Now tack a piece of triangle stock to the top of the bottles and and place under your models desired c of g. Now to calculate the amount of weight and where to put it will take some thought so you'll need some more beer.....

Q-Ball, I really like your machine, since I have been lazy and still haven't built any of the other suggested ones, I might end up doing this one. One question, what did you use on the top of the poles? Looks like just plywood or something, just not sure. Did your round it or anything?

On the top is 1/8 hard ply.Something thin but hard..On top of the hard ply is a piece of fuel tubing slipped over the top edge. The pvc is 1/2 inch. Another pix of the top. It works perfect..Walt

Default King/Another thing

In the first pix I sent. The uprite pieces of pvc that you actually sit the plane on fits into a T at the bottom.Only one side of this T is glued. That way you can rotate the leg in or out in case you want to balance a larger or smaller plane. You can spread it wide or narrow.Have a good one'....Walt
