Default Best Engine

Ok MT Fans - what is the best engine for the HPI Nitro MT. I am looking to spend less than $125. Hopefully a lot less!!!!! I need your opinions because I do not know enough about the different ones. There is no hobby shop within an hour so I cant ask there. Also will the stock manifold still work on it.

Thanks
Aranel

In that price range, here are some engines i would recommend in that price range

OS max .15CV-RX
OS Max .12CV-RX
Fantom FR12

All are great engines with plenty of power to make u happy. All are also very reliable and easy to tune.

Not sure about the manifold question, since I dont own any HPI products. However, most side exhaust engines all use the same exhaust setup, so u should be ok

Will the .12's have enough power to make me happy? I am somewhat reluctant to go from a .15 to a .12. Am I crazy or are they just as good?

Normally going from a .15 to a .12 would be a little iffy but the 15FE although reliable, is a slug. Both the .12's that Nitroaddict pointed out to you have far more power than the 15FE. They would definitely be a step up! The 15FE puts out all of .56hp while all the other engines in Nitroaddicts list are over 1 hp.

As for the stock header, you'll definitely want to toss that too. The 90 degree bend coming off the exhaust flange is really restrictive. For 13.00, you can get the tubular header for the RS4 SS 3 and bolt it on. It's a direct drop in and it makes a big difference in lowend grunt.

for 125... you won't be getting around too well with a decent engine. If you really want for 125 you can get a .15SS off ebay. .7 hp. If you saved up to 175-180 you can get a nice picco .15 which is 1.45 hp! and that is MAJOR power

It's not necessary to spend 180.00 to get a major power increase over the 15FE. For 110.00, you can get a CVR-X from Tower.

for the OS .15 CV-Rx it's 139.99 plus shipping from tower
the specs are:

Output: 1.2 hp @ 31000 rpm
Practical RPM Range: 4000-36000rpms

for the Hpi .15 SS it's 129.99
the HPI said for it is .7 hp though

for the Picco .15 it's 155.99.

RPMs: 34,000
Power Output: 1.3 hp

Like the previous guy said, I think your best bet is with the OS CV-rx. It seems the best bang for your buck. There is a sirio one that has 1.5 some hp, but I can't find it on tower and I bet it is 200 some dollars. good luck!

not to mention that you will need motor mounts for optional motors.
