RE: T-MAXX
I opend my last night!
Well, I'm not going to tell you what to buy but based on what I have been reading and what my local hobby store tells me, I picked up a few items that I think will be needed and then some. Here is my grocerie list ...
I purchased front and rear alum bulk heads
A complete set of nylon A-arms
Steel spur gear to replace the stock plastic one when it wares out
Slimline Dual Exhaust System
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXEPJ3
This next item is not out yet but will be in January.
Werks Picco P2 Monster .21 T-Maxx Engine
http://werksracing.com/product.do?sku=WRXP2M21
I emailed the company and they said it will be released in January of 04 with a street price of under $200. I will get one of these! [sm=punching.gif]

Tires do need to be glued (thin CA glue from Hobby Shop or Super Glue)
Battery Charger (Unless you have one or plan on converting to a pull start)
I highly recommend the pullstart (cheap upgrade which lightens the truck considerably)
Rechargeable NiHM Pack ([link=http://www.badhorsie.com/products/rechargeable-batteries.html]Bad Horsie[/link]) You will save piles of dough in the short and long run.
A good temp gun is an excellent investment.
A good set of Allen wrenches (Or Allen Drivers)
A new body (painting your own body is always fun!)
Shock Oil (The stock oil is rather thin, the stock shocks will handle at least 40 - 50 weight)
Good fuel (No Blue Thunder)
After-run oil (Must-have)
Bare minimum stuff that cost much more money which you will eventually want:
RPM A-Arms (The most indestructable on the market with lifetime warranty)
Aluminum bulkheads (at least in the front)
Steel hinge-pins (the titanium one's cost more but bend just as easily)
A higher rated steering servo
A steering servo protector
A fail-safe / and maybe a throttle-return spring
Hardcore Racing Titaniun front skid (The aluminum skids bend but don't bend back)
The list sooooooooooo goes on...

RE: T-MAXX
a rc-solutions roll cage is a good investment which will protect and strengthen ALOT of stuff on your truck but it will set you back 100 bucks rpm a-arms a must have. but basicaly drive your truck really hard when u get it and see what breaks then replace that stuff tha is the best way to upgrade your truck because u find out what parts are weak. of course then u have to wait for parts but thats what i do

Sorry man, but your going to need allot of stuff to make your Maxx handle that engine. That engine will rip your truck apart without some serious driveline upgrades!

RE: T-MAXX
I would definitely stay small block on the T-Maxx. You are talkin about a lot of money to upgrade to that engine! The Fantom FR18 is a great engine, small block, direct bolt in for the T-Maxx. Just be sure to put a tuned pipe on for optimal performance!!

RE: T-MAXX
Because of breakage i hopped up:
RPM A-Arms, shock towers, front bumper and body mounts
Aluminum bulk heads, braces, bumper mounts, and rear bumper
engine replaced with Fantom 18
fail safe, and few other things that i can not remember right now.

RE: T-MAXX
What engines can I install on the T-Maxx that will use the EZ starter? I am not looking for blistery performance or huge displacement. I would like to have an engine that is more reliable and will not have to be rebuilt every 4 gallons.
I fly aircraft, and I wouldn't dream of having an engine that has to be rebuilt that often! Yet that is what I hear of the TRX 2.5 engine. I really want something that I can go out and just have fun in the parking lot and backyard with the kids. I already have a MAxx that didn't cost much (trade for surplus airplane stuff) so another model is not a practical solution.
I am not hard core RC Car. I just want something to play with when flying isn't possible due to weather.

i say skip wasting $400 on the most worthless and weakest POS imaginable and get something real. i have a tmaxx and have for about 5 months. its worked for probably 2-3 of those months. i poured over $1200 into it and it STILL sucks. i am selling it to get a buggy.

Your two dads ever tell you 'if you don't have something nice to say, don't say it??!?'
This forum is pretty cool, but I can't believe the threads people feel are alright to post sometimes...
Now, back to the question-
As far as upgrades/spares-
1. I would get a big SUV body for bashing (Excursion/H2/Escalade). These will act somewhat like a rollcage, ESPECIALLY in protecting the cooling head from direct impact (I have lost 2 motor mounts from direct impact to the cooling head). Plus they look cool! I now bash with a SUV body at all times. So much more protection, and worse case I lose a body mount or two.
2. I really like the pull start- but the EZ start is great to get the hang of it.
3. Buy as you break!
Enjoy it man! I like my Maxx a lot. Refer to the forum often for any problems you have!

RE: T-MAXX
I just put HPI Savage purple springs on my wife's TMaxx and a spool diff.
Just need a nicer set of tires and will be good to go. Cant wait to finish breaking in the motor.

P.S. If you do sell it and get a buggy you can't go wrong there! Buggy's rock!

RE: T-MAXX
Heres what I did with my Sportmaxx. The 2.5 IMO is a great engine I have not have any problems at all and have over 5 gallons thru it. I bought a Crazy nut cooling head and it runs between 200-210 degrees. Before the head it was around 240. I also put on Traxxas big bore shocks, a failsafe, fuel filter and a rechargeable receiver pack. I have not broken any parts at all. Mine is built like a tank and hope yours will be as reliable. One last thing, for some reason there seems to be a bunch of Tmaxx haters on this forum that will say the Max is a POS. I'd be willing to bet that most of these guys have never owned a MAX, they just want to trash it. Last summer I raced with a group of Maxxes and very few had any problems. We raced every weekend on a course that has 2 table tops and 3 sets of triples so we weren't babying them.

RE: T-MAXX
I dunno what the hell flatlander_14 is talking about. Ive had my T-MAXX for a year now and havent had a problem with it. It runs fine. The only thing ive bought out of necesity for it is a new a-arm, cause i dont race, only bash, and eventually something had to break I guess. THe only other things ive purchase so far is a Slimline Pipe, cause i hate the side exhaust, is gets all over. And i bought a motor saver air filter cause it keeps the dirt out really well. Other than that ive been really lucky and havent had to buy too many replacements.

RE: T-MAXX
i would say anything on your truck that breaks replace it with rpm parts if tey make the part you broke. if they dont get aluminum. you can beat rpm they have lifetime warrenties and i have yet to break crack or do anything to my rpm parts. i bash my truck all day and it just laughs at me that or im driving like a girl[&o]
