Default To fiberglass or not to fiberglass!

I am at the point on my Top Gun Interceptor where I need to fiberglass the flying surfaces. I was thinking of Monokoting the flying surfaces. Does any one see any problem with monokoting the flying surfaces on this model? Of course this is going to be ducted fan powered. My friend had a Mavrick with Monokoted flying surfaces that seemed to work fine.
Thanks,
Craig

Craig, either way works! You do save some weight with monokote, to some people painting looks better. My tango is monokoted and it's a 180 mile an hour turbine jet. So clearly monokote will hold up at lower speeds. There is a little bit of strength added in fiberglassing but in my opinion it's minor. You can always come back and paint it later! Have Fun,

Sean

There are other advantages to glassing as well. For example: in cases where I was concerned that say an aileron was too wimpy in torsion (to prevent a torsional flutter mode), I just glassed it with the weave on a 45 degree angle to make it stiff in torsion. But if you do not need the strength, Monokote is usually lighter.

The Interceptor is fine with Moneycoat on the flying surfaces. Plenty strong enough!

But......... you still gotta paint the fuselage. Hard to get a PERFECT color match with Moneycoat. Heck, If you run out (ofMoneycoat) before you are finished and have to buy more, chances are it won't even match itself!!!!! Ha HA
