Default Gas question

One thing I've always hated about glow engines is that the lube gets everywhere. It ends up on the plane, on the field box, on the radio. Are gas engines any better in this respect?

Yes there is not hardly any oil to wipe off just the dust from flying they are so much cleaner.

The only cleaning I have to do on my gas planes is when they get mud splashed on them at a wet field or when I do a lot of balsa sanding. the damn dust gets everywhere. Every 6 months or so I check to see if there's any exhaust residue. If there is, it usually cleans up with one pass of a moist toweltte. I really do feel for you glow fuel guys.

I guess I run a little more oil than I should but the clean up is once every 10 trips or so, not after every trip to the field.

Doc, that's one of the reasons that I converted to gas many years ago. Couldn't stand the mess. One reason for the mess is that typically the oil content for glow is 5:1 and for gas is 50:1. Of course these ratios vary but this is a good comparison. The tiny amount of oil that may show up on a gasoline powered plane seems to be a lot less sticky and a lot easier to cleanup. In the summer I do far more cleanup of bug splatters and grass stains than fuel residue.

Jumponin the fuel is fine,
Ken

No, your ratio assumption is right on.
