Zenoah G-45
Hey guys, I am close to mounting two G-45's on my B-25 and need to know if I am going to need the extended mount and spring starter for this engine. I use the spring start an my G-62 but would really like to avoid the additional weight, cost, and reworking of the firewalls if I can.
So is it possible to hand prop this engine or is it best to go with the spring start?
Thanks
Jay

If you follow the instructions about prop placement they will hand start just fine..I just hand started a newyly rebuilt G62 about 6 times, resetting the carb and trying different props..Piece of cake...

RCIGN1, by prop placement are refering to the position in which it is when the piston reaches top dead center? Is it that difficult to set up, that since I will be using two engines, that is is not worth the effort? Is there another method besides this and spring start? Seems like I have heard something about about starting ingnitions.

RE: Zenoah G-45
here we go again, how to start a z45/62 right, in the uk, there are 2 way of starting the things, if you look on *************.co.uk you will see the 2 ways being argued about, but, heres mine, first, the mag gap, undo the mag, with the 2 allen bolts, get an ordinary piece of note paper, trap it between the flyweel magnets, and the mag, tighten the bolts, nip them both, then tighten
set the prop so that when it is JUST coming on compression, it is absolute vertical, tigthen the bolt, now then, heres the clever bit, i dont batter the prop to death, i slap it, imagine slapping someone across the face, that is the movement you want, you dont hit the prop, you slap, it, firmly, but not that hard put the choke on, slap slap, about 5 times, if the needles are set to the handbook, it will fire, when it does, give it one more, take choke off, then within 3/4 slaps, it should be going, i am going to try the other method as well, but you will have to look for yourself at that way hope this helps, also, a way of stopping the prop slippingwith a sigle bolt, glue fine sandpaper to the rear of the prop, it will grip the prop driver wish all you guys well for the coming season, look on the lma uk web site, see how we do it over here, new for this year TURBINES but on the 3 v bombers vulcan, valiant, victor all about 18foot span, nice

Hey Jay,
How about buying a belt reduction system for your starter? They run about $90 and with the hub nuts you will have on the engines, you can get an insert with a small dimple that will fit the smaller round prop nut....

DONT GET IT, WHY SPEND A LOAD MORE MONEY ON AN ENGINE THAT STARTS FINE AS IT IS, you must have money to burn over there, if i was wanting an engine with electronic ignition, i would have bought one in the first place, try my method, IT WORKS
and what oh what is the point of using a starter with a gas, isnt that defeating the object of having a gas engine in the first place?
fuel, model, tranny, glove, go flying, no field boxes, heavy batteries, etc, goes against the grain somewhat

I think all the money we put into this hobby would have just as well spent if it were burned. Some just burn more than others simply because..they can.
The CH Jump Start is not an electronic ignition replacing the mag unit. It is a timing altering device that only aids in start ups. They run $60.00 each.

All the big Zenoah engines will hand start, they all use the exact same mag rotor and coil/s..
You need to put the prop on the hub so that it's straight up and down when the first magnet is not quite passing the left hand part of the coil..This gives the best speed for the magnets passing the coil...Choke until the carb is wet and slap it with a glove on until it fires, then take the choke off and do it a few more times...Once you get the hang of it, it's easy.....
