I think Ive got quite a bit out of the dragonfly and I am pretty confident with it, however it has many shortcomings as you all know. The latest crash was caused by going out of controller range. Straight in at full throttle from about 50 feet. As usual I can rebuild it with a bit of blue and sticky tape.
However just wondering what you would recommend as the next step ?
I have a heli radio, micro gear, a few esc's and lithium batteries so I would only be looking for a bare kit, hopefully something cheap yet with collective pitch ?

Maybe wate till the collective pitch upgrde comes out from helihobby.com it wiil fly more like a real heli then. Or try the next size up, an Elio by robbe. They work really well!

My local hobby shop, perthrc.com.au has 4 in stock. There is a massive price difference between the elio and the dragonfly. The kits cosrs $500 aus. On top of that you will need four mini servos, gyro and a bigger battery pack. But in the end you have a real helicopter that flies dead smooth. O one other thing, you will need a radio with ccpm mixing.

I did a fair bit of research for my next electric heli and settled on the Eolo as it is a modern design, moderately priced, well built, CP, stable, lots of upgrades and spare parts (in Australia) and has 3D capability for the future. The JR Voyager EP was another possibility. It is quite a step up on the smaller helis and quite expensive in comparison. I got mine from [link=http://www.helihobby.com]HeliHobby.com[/link] in the States and saved about $100 (make sure you check out the [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/What_is_going_on_over_at_helihobby%25com%3F/m_1382715/tm.htm]What_is going on over at helihobby?[/link] thread before you use them) but [link=http://www.modelflight.com.au]ModelFlight[/link] (great service) in Adelaide and NC Helicopters (I have the number if you want it) in Victoria have them (I think ModelFlight get them from NC Helicopters). As philpop says, CCPM radio is necessary (no mechanical mixing option) and by the time you factor in servos, gyro, Li-pos and ESC the $$$ start racking up. Thanks guys I have a futaba FF7UAPS which has all the heli mixing and I have lots of micro servos around including Hitek 555 receiver and pg03 gyro including 22 and 30 amp speed controllers so I should be ok for everything except the main heli and motor?

NC Helicopters is selling the basic heli for $595 but I'm sure I can get a better price elsewhere even if I have to order from perth ?

Hey... why don't you wait for zoom400? Some people already have them... most of them from europe!... i think from the forums... it's better than the eolo... at least from a design point of view....

I get 10 minutes on an 8 cell pack 1700nicads with the elio. I am very happy with the eolo, It has been built very well. The eolo is generally designed for light aerobaticts, including inverted flight. Robbe make an upgraded verson of the eolo called a whisper? My local hobby shop is putting it togerther at the moment.

Is there any more info on the zoom 400, and do you know what it will sell for. The Robbe looks really cute but I am willing to wait a while ?

This guy offer me the zoom kit for 249... no electronic... the problem is I got no cppm radio to fly this... lol... right now I believe u have to order acrose the ocean... so far... i don't think there is any dealer in usa sell this yet....

i rang up my hobbyshop. The eolo costs $499 aus including a brushed motor. The motor works fine!

looks like it is cheaper than the eolo however it may cost a bit to get it to Melbourne ?

You should be able to get an Eolo for about AU$460 including express freight from the States. AU$499 sounds reasonable though, if you were to get it in Australia. My opinion is that you shouldn't pay any more than AU$500 (which is why I bought mine from the states).

Also, don't forget that the Eolo is considerably larger than the Zoom 400.

Is this the eolo R22 or the eolo Pro?

This is onlt the kit + motor. It is the r22. This is a proper helicopter

philpop the eolo looks very nice however do you have any reservations about the zoom 400 ? It looks fantastic in the video although this was done indoors...
