Slower Prop?
I have a Model Tech Extra 300L running a .46AX 11x6 prop. I flew it the other day and thought it was a to fast. I just purchased a 12x4 prop and I was wondering if this prop would make a noticeable difference in speed. I want to slow it down as much as possible, yet retain my power for hovering… Any recommendations on props?

RE: Slower Prop?
I think its the other way around If you want to slow the plane down but still have the hover you need something like a 10x4 or 9x4, the 12 x4 and bigger are just going to bog the motor down. larger props are more efficient meaning it will product more thrust at a given rpm which means more speed.

Larger props will not necessary give you speed if they don't have very much pitch. Take a 24" prop for instance. If the blades are totally flat (no pitch), then you won't go anywhere. Pitch is what determines speed, not diameter.

Short high pitch means minimum static thrust and maximum top airspeed (if the plane's drag doesn't win...)
Hover is 100% dependant on static thrust. More is better... so the long low pitch is correct.

RE: Slower Prop?
i used 11X4 to slow the plane down with the 46 fx . it will sound noiser . your turning more RPM ( longer prop & higher pitch will lug the plane down & creat more left tourk on take-off) ( lower pitch & shorter prop will in-crease rpm witch will prodouse more hp .) ( engine get the most hp at the highest rpm ) BILL WRC-FLYER
