Default Li-ion battery charger

I just bought the Enjoy model Li-ion charger for 10.8volt. In the instruction it states that I need a DC 15.5 - 17.0 volt /1amp. power source. I found an old converter that gives me dc 12volt/0,8 amp Will this work on the charger, does it mean that it will just take a little longer to charge?

And for something complete different; I just broke my second rotor head in 2 month, I'm looking for a replacement made of aluminiun or any other material, any ideas. A supplier in Europe would be great.
Thanks

Default RE: Li-ion battery charger

I'm not an expert on Lithium - but I might be able to help answer your question. The 12v and .8 amp rating on your power supply is probably too low - but this might depend on the current rating of the battery pack you are charging and the charging time of the charger. Most of these "smart" chargers require a "stable" 12v supply - such as a car battery. It's unlikely you would do any damage to the charger or to your lithium battery with a too low voltage from your power supply - however I would recommend caution and monitor the charging process with a digital volt meter if you have one. What I can tell you is - Lithium Ion batteries are pretty fussy about how to charge them. There is a very informative article on charging Lithium batteries at:

http://www.batteryuniversity.com/index.htm

Incidentally, the smart charger I am using on my NiMH batteries requires a 12v supply - and when it is in the charging cycle the peak current is approx 4 (four) amps.

Good luck -
Jack

Default RE: Li-ion battery charger

Botanist,
I've just bought a li-poly charger also. Hooked it up to computer PS (12V line) and it works just fine.
You can find more detail info here : http://www.rcbatteryclinic.com
Scroll down on the left and look for PC Power Supply for your charger article.
Hope this help.
