Default Screw on the nose landing gear not tightening

The screw that goes through the steering arm, and holds the nose landing grear onto the mounting bracket will not tighten when the wire of the leanding gear is through the hole. It tightens up just fine when there is no landing gear in the steering arm. Once I put the wire for the landing gear into the steering arm, and try to tighten the screw it doesn't tighten, it just spins around. I haven't a clue what the problem is. I also appologize if what I am saying makes no sense at all. I am very tired, I have been working on my plane all day making sure I get everything right. It's just really frustrating when it doesn't do together properly. Oh well...I need to get some sleep.

Sounds like you've stripped all but the final thread in the steering arm... Pull the screw and look to see if its the screw itself that has been stripped or the brass (sometimes aluminum...) fitting that has been stripped out.

You can tap out the hole to the next larger screw size, or in some steering arms you can replace the metal insert with a wheel collar.

I often just use a wheel collar with a long screw (replacing the set screw) and an aileron torque rod end, eliminating the plastic portion, and giving virtually any length steering arm you want.

If your screw or of the steering are not stripped out try filing a flat spot on the gear leg.

You should always file a flat on the rod where teh screw will engate. juast makes a better and stronger connection..

And Yes, it does sound like a stripped thread. I'll guess the recieveing part, not the screw. As they are usually brass or aluminum. It may look steel, but it's probably nickel plated brass. You can pop out the old stripped collar, and replace it. There's a standard sized that's typically used. Take it tothe local feild, as one of teh 'seasoned' pilots probably have what you're looking for in the bottom of their feild box!
