Have you tried using an iron or heat gun to release the adhesive? I just did an old Cub and the heat gun made it rather painless to remove.

I had the same problem and I tried heat solvents and that was getting me nowhere fast. I then tried regular old clear packing tape that you use to tape up boxes, I just stuck it down and pulled it off, volia! the adheadsive came off with it, and it's cheap to throw away after lifting all the color off the wood.

the clear tape seems to work best - but it is still a painstaking process - - this is the biggest mess ive ever got into.. i think it would be quicker to build a whole new plane..

Recently r-covered a plane from a friend. Make sure you get all those little bits and bumps flat! Unless you are going with clear film don't worry about the color stains in the wood. As long as your surfaces are flat and smooth it will look good.

Ditto on the pain in the rear end thoughts but hey what ya gonna do?

Eric
