i was wondering if i would be able to convert my stock rs4 rtr3 into an offroad rally car. i really like on road, but i find myself at a park with a lot of open area a lot of times, and i wanna ride my car there.i also dont wanna go out and spend another 300 for a car, because im not made out of money.

You could probably play with the shock mounting positions or get longer shocks to gain more ground clearance. You could probably find some larger wheels and tires like the 2.2" stadium truck tires and make them fit to get it higher up as well. If you went with the bigger tires, you would probably nees a different body (or just run without one) because of clearance issues. I have never heard of anyone converting an on-road car to off-road, but Im sure it can be done with a little creativity. I wouldnt expect a race-ready off road ride from a converted street car, but im sure you can get it high enough off the ground to allow grass and smooth dirt running.

dont use 2.2 tires and wheels that will be too big, buy some rally tires like on the hpi super nitro rally. and try to do anything to gain more ground clearance.

Keep in mind guys, on-road cars suspensions are not meant for abuse such as jumping jumps or what have you. Running off road flats (ball fields, dirt roads, etc) will be ok. As soon as you jump one, on even small jumps, you’re gonna get mad at the outcome.

tahts why he should buy some new larger off-road shocks and springs, also for the extra ride height, if he will be jumping.

I'm speaking of A-arms, control arms and their mounting/pivot points. The entire suspension set-up for on-road cars are engineered for staying planted on the asphalt and adjustable for cornering and handling. You’re not seeing all the variables.

The suspension arms (and arm mounts) will not be up to the task. On-road cars use lighter duty suspension arms (saves weight and have less stress on them while racing).

the more i think of it, its a stupid idea. Driveing an on-road car off-road will destroy it.

Nah, it has nothing to do with "dumb" which you are not. Sometimes we just don’t think about specific details. It happens to the best of us. Don’t sweat it.

No doubt, but the car bottoming out saved the suspension. The suspension didn’t have to travel excessively nor take “the hitâ€. You’re chassis did that.
