Default P80 info needed

In 2005 I am entering a contest for the worlds fastest RC car.

http://www.rccaraction.com/rc/news/car_challenge.asp

The rules state the car must be wheel driven but turbine are
allowed. My plan is to have the exhaust of a P80 blow on a 3"
turbo charger and gear it to the wheels....

http://bellsouthpwp.net/w/e/weeks1/car.html

I don't have the P80 yet but if someone could measure theirs it
would be great help at this point.

OD
ID of exhaust
overall length with starter
overall length without starter

Thanks you.

Eddie,
From the jetcat P80 review in RCJI Aug/Sept 1999:

Length 244mm, with starter motor is 297mm
Diameter is 112mm

Inside diameter of exhaust? You mean the outer dimension of the inner cone? 44mm if thats it.

Go to Jetcat web site/manuals. There is a section in the manual which gives most of the info you are looking for. Look at page 18/74, Suggested turbine installation.

Eddie, try a gyro on the steering servo. I've done this on T-maxx and it really helps. Just use a cheap $50.00 one, nothing fancy as long as it's Piezo Solid State Type.

Eddie,
This project looks pretty darn interesting! Are you going to update your site as you progress or is it a secret exactly how you are going to do it? Just curious how the sheilding will be done around the rotor to duct it away without adding any thrust, and not burning up the plastic of the car. Is the throttle just going to be controlled by the speed of the turbine or will there be some kind of clutch like in a heli? What kind of speed are you hoping to reach??

PS, By the way, a fellow who says he knew you well (Charles Ramcharan) when he was working down in your kneck of the woods is dating my older sister now.

No pries money awards yet... But there will be wood for many different type of cars..

Fastest electric.. Fastest stock... Fastest Monster truck... Nitro ect

I am shooting for the Worlds fastest RC Car.. Gunnies Book of World records will be there..

No secrets here... Every time I do something new I will take pics of it and put it on...

http://bellsouthpwp.net/w/e/weeks1/car.html

Its just takes so much time to build one simple bearing housing, or shaft but I got this new
Lathe and I want to get good with it..

Its going to be a challenge to make that steel housing so it does not over heat the
turbine and works like I want...

Remember... The car need to be able to stop while the engine is at idle.. This means the
turbo will not be spinning, because of that, the exhaust gas will have to go around the
turbo...

I will do like Sean said and put a simple gyro... All I want to do is go straight... can't be that hard..

Wish me luck..

Hi Eddie,

We might have a motor that puts out maybe 15 horsepower at about 7500 RPM. No clutch though. And the exhaust kind of goes the wrong way.

Good luck in any case.
