Default Venus 40 Cowl

I have recently gone from an inverted os46FX on the Great Planes Venus 40 to the conventional straight up configuration because of too many problems. Does anyone have any experience with how best to cut the cowl so that the engine protrudes thru the top so that you can still get it on and off with the muffler attached. I haven't really been able to come up with anything other than to leave small access holes on the opposite side to be able to remove the muffler with the cowl on.
