Newbie to gas question
I have a BUSA 1/4 scale Fokker DR-1 (15 lbs) powered with a Zenoah G23. It flies OK, but it seems a little underpowered. There is nothing "extra" for getting out of trouble etc. I'm considering installing a more powerful engine and am looking for suggestions.
How does the power of the Fuji BT32 compare to the Zenoah G23? Is there a significant power advantage for the Fuji?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
Dave

RE: Newbie to gas question
If you decide to switch engines think about going to a Zenoah G26. The difference between the G23 and the G26 is remarkable. A G26 here at sea level out pulls the Fuji 32 easily.

Replacing your G23 with a G26 might be the most practical way to go, as the 26 gives an increase of at least 25 % more power, uses the same bolt mounting pattern and weights just about the same.

RE: Newbie to gas question
bokuda, How is your engine set up, Stock muffler? What prop are you using? What oil mix? I was having the same problem on a T-craft a while back so I started experimenting. I took off the stock muffler and replaced with a tatone.(added about 150 rpm) Replaced Zinger 16/8 prop with a PK plus 16/8 ( added another 200 rpm) changed from lawnboy oil 32:1 to Klotz 50: 1. and I installed a velocity stack on the carb. This added a little more I believe. End result was going from mediocre performance to just about right. Just my two cents worth and you may have already tried this stuff but I've seen the plane you have fly well with G-23's before. Although weight makes a big difference so can little details like the above. Bill

Local Hobby shop ordered the stack and muffler for me. Fox Manufactoring in Fort Smith sells the PK props. Any high performance prop will give you better performance than a stock Zinger. Menz or any of the other good ones on the market. If a 16/8 gives you enough clearance outside cowl you might want to consider it. Bill

PK props are made by Phil Kovar in Kansas, very nice props, and reasonable..
He can make any size you want, and any pitch....
PK props don't run as fast as some others but pull hard....
