Comparisons
Hi, I've been a subscriber since issue 2. Your magazine stands out from the rest by it's great content.
I love your magazine, but as with other RC Magazines I find one very important thing lacking in your reviews.
Lack of comparisons.
When reading a review of a car or product, it would be extremly helpfull to have a little box with a rundown of other cars/products in that class. Many automotive magazines do this and is helpfull to gauge the car amongst it's peers.
I understand that Magaines like yours are driven by advertising dollars so all reviews seem to be positive. But I'm starting to feel like every magazine I read is just one giant add.
Thanks.

RE: Comparisons
A comparison will bring about an opinion by the reviewer.
I think a more fair review is to review the vehicle, evaluate how it performs, and report that to the reader.
I put nearly 2 gallons of fuel through the last car I tested.
If I experience a problem with a product while testing...expect to see it in the article.
As a writer, I would rather give facts than opinions. It's all part of an unbiased review.
Shootouts are for comparisons...and even then you get opinions from the drivers...then you hear from readers that "Shootouts are pointless! Everybody picks a different vehicle!"
There's a pretty diverse group working at Driver. Everyone likes different stuff and I think a shootout would reflect that.

RE: Comparisons
ahh, that's not were I was going exactly.
I agree that shootouts tend to yield everybody liking a different kit.
What I was going for was more like a little box in the corner stating:
- what other cars are available in this class
- if those cars have been reviewed in the past and what issue
- what is the retail price of those cars
just a quick competitors rundown so you know where this car stands.
In the last two issues I have found the reviews to be more critical. This is great. No car is perfect and it's nice to see your reviews reflect that.
Thanks!

RE: Comparisons
I have to say I hope Driver does attempt to find a way to do comparisons in a fair way. Many folks including myself would love to know the answer to how the XXX-T MF2 compares to the T4, and how the XXX BK2 compares to the B4. Also how do the array of Nitro Monster Trucks compare? How about the current generations of electric and nitro touring cars? What are the pros and cons of each?
WhileI know determining what is best is subjective, and also know that most high end kits are so good only high end driver skill could see a difference I STILL WANT TO KNOW. As someone who is about to plop down a large bit of money I like to think I can trust the guys at RC Driver can help guide me to what is best for my driving skill and needs. Based on your reviews of the MF2 I know you think it is excellent BUT not how it compares to the also excellent T4? How can I make up my mind without a head to head comparison? I expect a magazine to take on these tough questions and help the readers by providing answers, even if the process is difficult or even contraversial.
