H9 AT6 Texan
I am about to order the Hanger 9 AT6 Texan with a Saito 100 for some summer sport flying. My question is there anyone out there with experience with this combination, and will it perform like a sport plane or a scale model? P.S. I plan to add the retract kit for better performance.

Greyfox,
I have one, but not with that engine. I have a TT91FS on mine. I like it a whole bunch and yes, it does fly scale. Do a search and you'll find some great information on it. There are a few mods you might want to look into doing. The firewall should be reinforced with some epoxy. There's a thread in the Warbird/Warplane fourm where a pilot was flying one with a Saito 150 where the firewall and engine came flying off in level flight.
I do recommend this plane. It flies like a champ and turns as if it's on rails. Good luck, again do that search. You'll find a lot of information. Best of luck.

Whatever you do, reinforce the firewall. Epoxy it and then pin it too. I used 1/8" wooden dowels in six places, epoxied in and it works fine.
You might remember my little episode with a firewall coming loose. I had part of my right thumb amputated because of it. Still causes pain and agony now and then.

Yes! but for the difference in price, go with the 100....you can swing a larger prop slower and the sound will be really neat! My T-6 was test flown yesterday (Saito 100) and I loved the way it 'grooved'....very smooth flying bird.
I did replace the 5/32" struts with some from Robart and had no problems taking off.

RE: H9 AT6 Texan
Hi people:
I am finishing off the Cowling on this plane. And I have installed a Saito 100.
I am not sure how much of the Cowling you had to cut out for the muffler to fit.
The exhaust extension seems a bit short to extend out enough distance without having to cut out a long section of the Cowling. How did you do it???

Taildragger, did I miss something and you already posted pictures? If not could we see some? I want a warbird so bad I can taste it and all this is doing is making me jealous and want to go spend more money. I've already got an OS 160 that will power something nicely. Just have to get it built.

Go with the 100. I HAD one, it is not an acrobat, but it is a wonderfull Sunday flyer. Word of caution:
#1- Reinforce the firewall, it is weak.
#2 When flying inverted 6 or less inches above the runway, DO NOT GIVE IT FULL DOWN TO GO UP. The tail will hit the ground causing a bad break in the tail, wing mount and the firewall.
In some cases this damage is unrepairable. [sm=frown.gif]

Gents -
I am thinking about picking up a H9 Texan. I have had bad experiences with the stock H9 retracts in the past. Anyone have info (manuf. and model numbers) of where I can get aftermarket versions that will fit this bird?
