Default Melting inside muffler

I have recently purchased a cheap Smartech off ebay. Just getting into the hobby and didn't want to blow a lot of money on something thats probably not going to last the growing pains

Recently I was chasing a friends RC own the road and my buggy flipped over and broke the muffler right at the manifold. After repairing the muffler and getting a new coupler to connect it back on, I noticed that the inside of the muffler is melting away.

I sanded it down and everything is fine. Checked it this morning and the muffler baffle inside is melting again.

Any ideas as to what causes this and suggestions on how to fix?

Will getting a new side pipe made out of a metal like substance be best? Could I be running the engine to rich and the gas is melting it?

Thanks

I have a nice light smoke coming out of pipe which, by manual, means i am running it a little rich but ok. I have not had a chance to get to anything that will give me temp, but saw something about putting a drop of water on the glow plug and see how that works. saw that in rc101.net. I met some people from the local hobby shops, might be able to get one of them to let me borrow a temp gage. I think I am going to get a new pipe and put some heat shielding around the gas tank (as the pipe pretty much just sits on it).

Only needles I have on my Team Infinity engine is idle and main. Idle seems to do jack, and it idles fine anyways.

ya its sounds like its running WAAAY too lean. Running it lean will heat the engine up too fast. also running lean will lower the life of your engine. I own a duratrax MAX ST which is pretty much bone stock except for the tuned pipe. And they tell me to put a drop of water on the cooling head and if the drop of water comes to a boil and shows bubbles within 3-5 seconds then the engine is too hot.
