Default Solartrim - checkered pattern on wing

I am thinking of making a checkered pattern (2" squares) for the underside of the wings of the Great Planes Ultra Sport 40 with the self adhesive trim film - Solartrim.

Could somebody please advise the foll:
AA What's the best way of aligning and fixing the squares. I am sure that the dry fixing method given on the pamphlet will result in bubbles which are very difficult to completely eliminate.

BB Can Solartrim be fixed by positioning with soap water method. This is not mentioned on the pamphlet with Solartrim.

Thanks and best regards

I would try the soap/water method on a piece of scrap first. It *should* work.
