B.M.E. 50 heat problems?
Howdy. Thinking about a AW 29% Katana w/B.M.E. 50. Heard some scuttlebutt about the engine burning up in flight. This will be my first gasser, so I don't wanna get a problem to start with, Ya know. 'preciate any input.

RE: B.M.E. 50 heat problems?
Any engine will overheat if not installed properly. The BME is normal in this regard. Set up the cowl so air in and 2x air out. Remember too, that there is not a lot of air flow from the inner 1/2 of the prop so avoid hovering till the engine is broken-in.

There are no issues with the BME that aren't present with DA, 3W, ZDZ or any of the others..... As mentioned, it is all in the installation. If the engine is totally in the cowl, you need to make sure that you install ductwork to insure that the air flows over the cylinder head and out the bottom of the cowl. The more airflow the better. If the head is sticking outside of the cowl, you should be fine as long as there is nothing in front of or behind it to prevent air from flowing freely.
