rs4-3
I have the RS4-RTR-3
One real nice thing is the radio tray comes out with 2 body clips for cleaning
also the battery and receiver is inclosed
I would guess the shaft drive is going to be faster, alot less friction.
Make sure to get the new version w/ the 2-speed trany.
It's a $50 upgrade other wise. I bought mine before the 2-speed was available

RS4 2 and RS4 3
I have both, the RS4 2 and the RS4 3 SS. The RS4 3 is an entirely different critter. The only thing shared with the RS4 2 is the fact that they both have wheels. LOL The .12 in the SS is a VERY FAST motor. Also, the shaft drive in the RS4 3 is alot more dependable. I drive mine in parking lots alot and can't tell you how many times a pebble or something has gotten stuck and stopped up my belt system. No longer an issue with the shaft drives.

If you go to HPI's site, www.hpiracing.com and go to the RS4 3 information, they have a list of all of the differences between the 2 and 3.
Hope it helps,
Kevin

I'm guessing a .15, but size isnt what matters in engines really... its all about quality and brand, becuase when it comes to these engines the more you pay the better you get..

well with a conversion you could fit a .21 in but that can be complex. You can fit any small block .15 into a 1/10 scale. As for the RS4 3 and RS4 2 they have the exact same engine(15FE). The RS4 3 Type SS has a .12 engine thats much much faster than the one that comes on the RTR3...but thats a whole different car (well not really but its doesn't come with a radio and isn't RTR).

The RS4-3 SS is what I'm looking at getting over the RTR3. The SS is not RTR though. Is it difficult to put the kit together? This is my very first RC car so I am barely getting started. Thanks.

the biggest small block is a .18, you can fit one in no problem. I think...anyone try out the sirio .18 for the t-maxx? I think it'd be sick in a touring car!

Building the SS for me was a breeze, although it wasn't my first car. You could probably build the thing in 2 or 3 days if you work on it a fair amount. I think that kits are always the way to go though, since you built the car you know how to fix it! Some people with RTR's will come and ask questions and kit builder would know. And some of these are really simple and should keep them off the track for more than 10 minutes.
If you do get a Type SS I would highly suggest to read up on your engine tuning (www.rcnitro.com has good articles) because it isn't a cheap engine to replace if you blow it. If you tune it right its vey fast though, with a top speed of near or past 45mph. Its as solid as a rock too (but consequently its a bit heavy too).
