Default Newbie question "DD"???

Hello all,
Trying to correct a failed tail rotor motor on my Helimax Rototfly and I saw a post referencing a DD tail rotor/motor. What is "DD"?
Thanks

I may be wrong, but I think it stand for "Direct Drive". I have a HoneyBee 2 that uses a separate tail rotor motor and that's how several of the parts vendors have referred to it.

Hope that helps.

DD on heli with an electric tail motor means that the prop is not geared down, but fitted D irectaly onto the D rive shaft of the motor. On a heli with no tail motor, it means the tail is powered from a drive shaft that has a gear or belt connection with the main gear.

Direct Drive refers to the difference on two different styles of tail motors. One uses a geared motor, usually the Mabuchi N20. The direct drive tail uses a motor turning the tail rotor directly, with no gears. It is commonly a GWS litestick motor, but can be a brushless CD-Rom style motor as well.

Thank you so much for the input. If I want to run the GWS litestick motor in place of the stock motor on my Rotofly is there a place I can find directions for the modification? Will the stock electronics on the the rotofly work with the new motor or will I end up changing a lot of different parts to replace the stock motor. Thanks for helping out the new guy, very much appreciated.

I took a GWS 3x2 prop, pushed it on to a litestick motor (cut off the pinion with a dremel) and used zip ties to hold it to the boom. I also used the dremel to grind a notch in the boom for the motor to sit in.
Here is a really bad picture http://www.vinceherman.net/rc/DDTail.JPG
