I posted this question in the Manuf. forum but, not sure how quick Mike will be able to get back to me.
I have a ZDZ 60 with walbro carb that will not shut off using the throttle. It will slow to a fast idle.
The linkage is good and the throttle is closing all the way. The butterfly fits good.
There are two small holes drilled in the butterfly plate about 1/16" or 3/32" in diam. My guess is that these holes allow enough flow to keep the engine running?
Can I solder them up without problems?
TIA
Mike

I could be wrong, but I think you'll probably find those holes in most carbs. Before you go to the trouble of soldering them, is it possible to run the engine where you can get to the carb with your finger? I am thinking you could use your finger to close up the holes and see if that's the issue.
My first reaction was that the throttle stop screw might be keeping your throttle from closing all the way- have you eliminated this as a possibility yet?

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the response, the throttle stop screw has been removed. I know for sure that the throttle is closing all the way and the plate is a good fit in the carb. I can't get access to the carb with the engine running as it's in the engine box. The only thing I can figure is that those two little holes in the plate will not allow the engine to cut off. I'm thinking they are probalbly there to allow whatever weed wacket equipment the carb was intended for to have a high idle.
Anyone else know for sure?
Thanks
Mike

I had the same problem on 2 gas engines and it was the low end needle set to lean. When set too lean on the low end the engine will actually run on the high side passages in the carb. Sounds crazy. Those holes are in the butterflys for a reason. Try it. You might be like me and realize DUH!!!!!!!

I just got done reading the Faq on RCS. They also mention that when the set screw is removed, the butterfly can rotate 360 degrees. If the butterfly is facing the wrong way, then you will not be able to stop the engine by closing the throttle. You might want to check but I believe that the head of the screw that holds the butterfly on should be towards the engine.
