try...
Try an FPE 2.7 (nose heavy though, and prob have to build with elevator servos in the rear....)
I have a BME 44 in my H9 edge 540, and I love it. That being said, the plane is quite heavy, but seems to do just fine...
As a rule, light wing loading is better, so you might consider a powerful glow motor, such as a Moki 2.1 (I didn't want a glow motor, which is why I have the BME...)
Cheers!

hangar 9 cap 232
I have two H9 caps, one has a Moki 1.80 in it and an O.S. 1.60 in the other and both of these glow engines will pull the cap out of sight at 3/4 throttle. The Moki burns a bit of fuel but the power and reliability makes it worth any amount of fuel that it burns. The O.S. doesn't have quite as much power (to me) but is still more power than you need for the cap and quite a bit better on fuel. Heck you can run the moki on 5% nitro or less so fuel for it is a little cheaper, my os likes at least 10% nitro to run at its best so a gallon of fuel is a bit more. I know gas is cheap but to get a gas engine that will match the power of the moki or the o.s. you are going to have a weight penalty that the h9 cap doesn't need because it's heavy to begin with. Just a little something to think about good luck. Bob

All up weight of Cap w/1.60?
Bob,
What is the all up weight (less fuel) on your Cap with the OS 160?
I just picked up a WM Cap and am planning on putting the OS 160 out of my Giles into it.
Thanks,
Scott H.

There's another thread with this same question in the gasoline engines forum. Any of the current crop of 2.4 gasoline engines will be great with this plane (Fox, Brison, FPE, ZDZ, etc).
edge_fanatic - was not aware that Kurt (FPE) was offering a 2.7 - just looked at his website, couldn't find anything. Can you give us some more info - maybe same weight but more power?

cap 232
Thanks , good info. What is the flight time with the Moki 1.80 and tank that comes with the cap 232. With this I can figure cost per flight and no. of flts. per gal. What prop are you using to do the torque rolls?

My H9 with OS 1.60
Just had it's maiden flight today.
Weight with the OS 1.60 is 12 lbs 14 oz using a Zinger 18X6-10 prop and Truturn standard 3" spinner.
Fuel consumption on the 1.60 is tremendous, burning 18 oz of 10% Omega in just under 7 minutes full throttle.
I once had a Saito 180 4-stroke, and remember thinking 2 oz./min was bad.
I will be trading my OS in for another Saito, I do believe.
The OS 1.60 seems to produce adaquate power for this model, at this weight. But, I did not try any extreme or 3D maneuvers today.
Do not let them fool you, 4-strokes burn less gas for the thrust.
Well, except for my YS 1.40 L which burns 2.2 oz./min. But, heck it is worth it, since it almost matches the Saito 180 in power, but has that real handy pump feature.
In a two stroke, I do not run more than 10% Caster mix. In a 4 stroke, I run 25% or 30% synthetic Coolpower. My two strokes tell me they hate synthetic 25%, cause they lean out as they heat up.

Wait a minute
My memory is slowly comming back.
My Saito 180 was running a 16 x 8, and my OS 160 is running an 18 x 6-10, at a higher RPM than the Saito combo.
I guess that means I am getting lots more thrust than I thought. Duh. Is it worth the increase in fuel consumption? I can only answer that when I try some 3D stuff with the CAP.
Sorry for the confusion.

YS 140DZ=2oz a minute....and about the same if not more power than a Saito. Its the Same as the 140RX for RPMs. I run a 16x11 on the 140L and it finds it a lightish load.
Just to show you the other engines available.
