Solar Panels for Glowplugs?
Hey guys, I was pageing though my pitsco catolog today, and I noticed that they have 1 and 2 volt mini solar panels. They are only $5!!! I wondering for sunny days while flying, use a solar panel instead of costly 1.5 vlt batteries. http://www.shop-pitsco.com/catalog.cfm I might order a 2 volt to test for the possibilities!

RE: Solar Panels for Glowplugs?
No "mini solar panel" will have nearly enough amperage to light up a glow plug. If you are trying to save money and still want to use non-rechargeable batteries, just wire up two ALKALINE type "D" cells in parallel. Cox makes (or once made) a simple battery box that did exactly this for starting their RTF plastic control line models.

RE: Solar Panels for Glowplugs?
I recall someone, maybe Jim Lee, using a small solar panel to trickle charge his glowplug battery. I use a 2 volt 5 amphr lead acid gel cell. Don't know how many amps a glow plug pulls but I have plenty. so I guess the question is how many amps is one of your solar cells good for.
