Default 3,08 meter Tomcat

Here is my next project, starting in January.

Plans are scaled up from a russian site, and showed surprisingly suitable.
I have 65 meters (190 feet) of drawimgs, and lots of documentation.
The Tamiya 1:32 model is also on its way, wich also others have had as a reference building this beast.
I must admit the F-14 is a urge to me...

Regards

Gudmund

Hi Gudmund!

A really amazing project! I´ve seen Manfred Eberhards F-14 in Punitz last september (will be sold by P. Liebetrau). Also a big ship with awsome presence in the air. But when I remember the wingsweep-mechnism, I´ve to admire you really like big complex projects. I´ve shot some video-footage of Manfreds mechanism when he assembles the plane o the field and some inflight material, let me know if you are interested.

greetings from austria
Thomas

p.s. thanks for your really apreciated birthday-greetigs, I hace seen you are also an old dinosaur, like me. And you´ve been right, no difference in my feeling up til now;-)!

Thanks Dave.
I guess I need one or two of those.
You see, when you`ve been modelling for thirty years, you will end up with something similar too.
As I see it now, this will be the ultimate project for me until now, and when finished, I doubt I will ever top this.
Estimated time is three years, probably moore, and I have no plans yet to set any status about powerplant, radio and other vital subjects. But it will work fine in the 2x 18 kilo range. Consumption is a moore interesting subject.
The best available at the time will be the choise.

Strykaas, the URL is:http://www.airwar.ru/other/draw_fn.html

Thomas, I have no plans to copy anyone, you should know that as the old eagle you are!
I will make the swing-wing with the 110 kg ( 12V) servo from Weidner: www.weimo.net, and the Tamiya set shows how the not shown shape of the wing is supposed to be.
No, I will make my own solutions to the thousand problems on this road.
Fortunately, I have a very good friend who is the guru to machine almost anything in metal (manually), and he have prooved his skills on the gear of my F-16. Outstanding performance, hydraulic shock-absorbing all over, just like the real one.

Lex, the car here is no problem..
I used this to transport my hanggliders too for maaany years, wich are six meters wrapped on this car..

Another maniac friend have bought himself a rather big WW Transporter, just for the hobby...
Besides, the first meter (nose) is to be separated from the rest, to ease transport. No problems, just opportunities.

Regards

Gudmund

Bring him my very best regards!
I admire those who are willing to pay the price(not money) to acheve their dreams.
Obviesly, he`s one of those.
But remember, there are alot of modelling all around wich deserves it`s thoughts about efforth and time used.
This is what modelling is all about. Make yourselves what you want it to be.

The very early stages of the start.
Here are some of the templates cutted from some drawings.
It`s a loooong way home, but I will get there some day...

Dear Gudmund
Did you just scale the drawing up from the original.
If so didn't the lines become very wide and distorted.
Or did you put it into Autocad and trace round it, and
then scale it up.
Regards Phil Goff.

Hi Phil.
I just sendt the original drawings to my brother, who sendt them trough a plotter, and the drawings that came out are just fine.
The lines are at the most 3mm thich, but I don`t see that as a problem.
The templates are cut in the middle of these lines....The fins on the templates are not present today, of course..
The Tamiya model is ready[8D]

I will, Albert. But have patience...
I`m not a wizard, and things do not come easily on such a project. It`s all hard work.
In fact, I`m thinking about doing things all over again, to make it 3,4 meter.
The same amount of work, and the decition has to be made now, before things actually gives results.
But we`ll see about that.
I have a source able to scan my Tamiya model, and save me from at least two years of building. 5 axis CNC, but as I said, we`ll see...

A few pictures of my Eagle, and my five year old daughter, Ingrid. Scratchbuildt, of course. No such kits on the market unfortunately....
On top of the food chain here, I thought it deserved a copy...
Relax on the slope, take the jets later..
Feathers and Humbrol ( Airbrush) for finish.

Some cind of EAGLE.. ( I have a twin turbine version too, in a different appearance..)
It`s all about the joy of modelling!
Have fun!

Gudmund
