RE: SOURCE FOR CARBON FIBER GEAR?
On my GP 330L, I save really 10 oz but my gear seems very weak in comparison to the aluminum one that comes with the kit. The stock gear weights 18 oz and the carbon one weights a tad over 8 oz. That computes to about 10 oz. The gear comes from TBM (that is the Graphtek gear) and is at a fair price. I like the wing tubes better but the weight savings are smaller (only 3 oz).

RE: SOURCE FOR CARBON FIBER GEAR?
It seems to bend easily. I know carbon fiber is a stiff material and it breaks instead of bending at a certain extent. It seems I will reach this extent in normal conditions : a bad gust of wing during a landing. Anyway, the gear i got is the one made specifically for the Lanier 33% Extra, which weights around 28 lbs typically. My plane will weight less than 23 lbs so it should be OK but I don't think it will be...
I have heard after my purchase that the Garphtek gears have a tendency to delaminate under normal conditions.
Saving 10 oz at 70$ is great but it will be really great if it holds up in the long run. My wing tube is great and stiff as rock (also Graphtek).

RE: SOURCE FOR CARBON FIBER GEAR?
One last thing, I fly advanced IMAC and don't always fly in ideal conditions. In a competition, you fly when it is your turn, not necessarily when the weather is nice. That said, this gear sure will endure perfect landings...
