Default Removable Nose Cone!

Can anyone show me how they did their removable nose cone on their jet? I am trying to think of a way that is the cleanest possible, i.e. no external fasteners such as screw heads or things like that. I would like to keep that to a minimum. I am trying to put one on my Yellow F-16.

That one's easy .
Cut of your nose, and then glue a thick former into the fuselage part so that some of it stands out forward to act like a centering or fitting for the nose cone.
Then place a longitudal former in the fuselage, to extend all the way into the nosecone. Drill a small hole in the cone, and glue a small screw in the former to stick out through the nosecone.
Now get access to a lathe, and make yourself a pitot dummy from aluminum, which will fit over the screw....screw on the pitot, and your entire nosecone is fixed to the airframe. Hope the description helps, i currently don't have access to my plane....

Thats a great idea if I didnt want to use the former in the fuse as a mounting point for my switches and airfill chucks. I need that whole are to be free so I can get in the use those things. So something extending out from the fuse former to the tip of the nose cone is not an option. I like the concealing fastener though, that is what I am looking ofr, just the functionality of the longitudinal former will keep me from the reason of why I am even doing this.

Oh i see. Then try this "alternative": Make the pitot tube with a screw in the back that reaches all the way through the nose cone to your former. Then all you will need is a small hole in the former with a nut behind in which you screw the "extendet pitot".
Hope this sketch helps somewhat....

Hmmm, that is something I could explore miniflyer. I would just have to see if I will have enough room for it. I am going to be putting 2 heavyduty switches and one of Dreamworks RC aluminum air mount plates on the former. they have a decent size to them but I think I should be able to make it work. Thanks for the idea miniflyer. Now I just need to see if anyone that has a lathe can make me that pitot tube.....lol!!!

How does it secure? Via the pitot tube? Is it threaded?

Sounds good, my new mini lathe is on the way to machine my pitot tube nose cone screw!!!! Af course along with 6 feet if 6061 aluminum rod!! I cant wait to tear into that thing. The front former is in place and the air fill plate and gauges are mounted. I will post some pics next time.

Hey Heer, may I ask where you got your dimensions to scale down the pitot tube for the F-16? Did you just eyeball the size or did you find diameters of the actual size to scale down? I got my lathe and am working on my pitot tube right now.

Ian,
While you're at it, how much would you charge me to make one of those and send it to Florida for my kit? Nice looking work.
Please let me know, and thanks.

I have a question, but please don't laugh.
What is "former"? Some kind of plywood?
I check dictionaries, even asked someone who live and was born in Canada.

Lucian, i'm not sure how to explain.....if you see a pic you'll know what it is. But let me put it this way: if it is in the wing and runs front to rear it it called a rib, and if it runs left/right/up/down in the fuselage it is called former.
If you look further up, you will se some pics. In my drawing of the nose, the red thing would be a former.
Hope that helped....

Miniflyer,
I saw the pics above. I didn't realize that you call it different: rib and former.
Should I use plywood or balsa?

Lucian, a former is a bulkhead.
