H9 extra 330S with gt-80. Did anyone try it yet?
Will the H9 extra 33% be good enough with the gt-80? I know the holes are pre drilled for it but How is the flying performance with it? How much throttle would I need to hover?
Thanks

If you bought carbon fiber goodies like landing gear and wing tube, lion batteries and do the mods to the motor that McConville suggests you probably could get ok performance. A ZDZ 80 or a DA 100 would be best IMO. Here is a pic of mine with a DA 100 in it. 23lbs 7oz.

Mine has GT80. troybuilt wing tube, (saves 3oz), drilled out muffler,(another oz), stock ignition and gear for now. Waiting for new SuperGear to replace landing gear. (should save 4-6oz). Sweet running and smooth engine. Removed spring starter. (6oz). Balances perfect with Hitec 5945's in tail. Hovers at 3/4 throttle with Mejslick 24-10. Not the reserve power of the DA but still respectable. Does IMAC routines great. I already had the engine from another project. If I did it again, I would go for the DA. They are wonderful engines. 24lb 8oz total.

Do you have to watch out for not puting too much throttle on the plane? If so I am probably am going to stick with the zdz 80 single.

Throttle management is a must but is isn't as bad as you think. I do a lot of full throttle uplines until the plane is a spec. I'm also not afraid to do a full throttle pass down the runway now and then.
J Grav, I saved 6oz on my wingtube. I must have had a heavier wing tube because the weight difference between the two tubes was dramatic. I did in fact weight all of my carbon parts and stock ones to see the difference.

I thought the wing tube would have made more difference, but I weighed them both on a very accurate scale and only got that much. My aluminum tube was VERY thin. Much thinner than my H9 330L.
I flew my 330L only 10 flights before radio loss and it went into the ground. Don't know what happened. JR PCM with only one receiver. That is where I had the GT-80. The 330L was heavy. Around 28lbs. It still flew great, but hovering was at almost full throttle.
Nobody in the club has seen the 300s fly yet. I wanted to be sure I didn't have any problems with this one. (I used the same pilot bust and maybe he is jinxed). So far I have been really gentle on it. Two Hitec FM receivers this time. Only three flights.
FYI - the GT-80 crank was bent on the first crash, so I ordered a new one with bearings and new seal. It was bent where the rotor mounts. I found out that the crank is symmetrical and I could have reversed it (without using the spring starter) and saved $185.
