79" Yak ARF landing gear ???
As you know the holes are not present for the landing gear installation. now before i start drilling I want to be right. The drawing I see here on the support forum is different than the drawing I see on the disk. ( I think)
on the drawing here the gear is straight up from the fuse bottom edge and the disk shows it leaning foward a bit.
What is correct?
What is in the fuse for reinforcement? How much wiggle room is there?
I'm sure that TLAR will not work in the long run for this.

The drawing on the original ARF disk is for the 80" Edge, not the yak. The drawing I posting here is for the 79" Yak so use that. I've added that drawing to all manuals from here on out so both are available to builders.

RE: 79" Yak ARF landing gear ???
You guys should get this issue fixed.[&:] i measured carefully and drilled - the bottom hole is into the block but the top went into foam.[X(] I drilled another about 1/8" back and foam again. [>:] didn't want swiss so used thin stiff wire to probe a bit found hard stuff about 1/4" lower measured down another 1/4 (1/2" total) and drilled got block but with three holes.[&o] glad i used small bit first.
well over all the covering looks good - no wrinkles, a little loose in a few places.
as reported already the rudder post was 1/8" short.
I would like the vert stab to go into somekind of groove. I just cut back covering and used 30min. to butt joint it ot the top of the fuse. Seems ok, I guess the whole plane is realy a vertical stab.
no other problems- hinge it all tonight.

RE: 79" Yak ARF landing gear ???
I got the os 1.60 fx with tuned pipe (Smith Pipe). I have APC 18x6w and Pro Zinger 18x6 to try.
Got the wing mounting done last night - centered wing in doublers and drilled- seems good.
One trick I used on my 65" Yak here is to use blind nuts on both sides. on the front I drill threads out of blind nut on the left side, keeping threads on the right side wing this way the blind nut acts as a better guide for the bolts. Being right handed I stand in front of the plane and use my right hand to screw from right to left.
On the rear bolt I do it opposite drilling the threads out of the right wing blind nut. Then I stand behind the plane and screw the bolt right to left.

RE: 79" Yak ARF landing gear ???
Hey, nice idea on the blind nuts. I will investigate the gear bolt locations. Are you sure you used the yak drawing and not the edge drawing guide? The ARFs are built exactly like the kits and the hardwood locations are the same. The fin is butt-glued to the top of the fuselage. This is how all the kits have been done for several years. It's quite strong enough given it is glued on properly. Use epoxy and wipe off excess with alchohol.

Mike
I used the drawing that shows 9 1/4"back, 1/2" up and 3 1/2"up that is posted on one of the other question threads. As I stated the problem was with the top hole being more like 3" up.

RE: 79" Yak ARF landing gear ???
Scott,
I've triple checked the drawings and they are correct. The top hole should be 3.5" from the bottom of the fuse or about 3" from the bottom mounting hole which is already 1/2" from the bottom of the fuse. The internal hardwwod mount for the top bolt is the same block that the wing mounting bolt goes through. So in other words the top gear bolt is in line with the front wing mounting bolt as well.

RE: 79" Yak ARF landing gear ???
I don't know Mike I must have gotten the freak plane. Like I said I measured several times and 3.5" gave me foam.
No worries though, I got the Rudder, elveator , gear, radio install all done with no other problems. I got the servo slave done, dual rates and expo set for the tail.
The 4-40 rods flexed a bit when i pushed against the rudder servo so I used central hobbies CF pushrods in the tail--- lots stiffer.
Got to set up aileron servos and install engine. Ballance by moving around battery.
If I go home after work and spend several hours on it I could fly this weekend!

RE: 79" Yak ARF landing gear ???
After reading this I checked my 65" Yak as well. I too had nothing but foam around the top hole. I followed the sktch given by Mike in one of the other threads for the Yak. Mine was about 1/4" off. I guess now that I have the extra hole it will help with weight.
