Default Knife Edge spin

I have done a couple of knife edge spin by accident, but I don't know how to enter one on purpose. Can someone give me a clue? Thanks, Dale

Default RE: Knife Edge spin

Dale,
I am no expert pilot, but have had some luck doing Knife-edge spins. What works for me may not work every time but it seems a good place to start. Maybe someone else can help you and I tweak this method.

Start out with a good long up-line as if you were going to do a Hammer-head. Toward the top, back off the power, wait for the speed to decrease before giving any control inputs. Once the airspeed is close to zero perform a half Hammer-head so the the plane is parallel to the ground. Then I add full down (3D rate) elevator and some power. You may have to give some opposite rudder from the Hammer-head to keep the nose parallel to the ground.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. From what I have seen the plane needs to be stalled right at the top of your up-line for the plane to enter the spin. Otherwise the plane will not respond to the high 3D rates. It is just a matter of timing and practice. I have had some very violent spins with a bit of practice. Some have been fast enough to make me wonder if my batteries would be thrown into the tail from the speed of the spin.

Like I said, I am no expert, but it has worked for me. If anyone can help with the method I have described, please come forward, I would like to try a different method also.

Tim

Default RE: Knife Edge spin

If you know how to do an inverted flat spin, when you are in it just start moving your aileron to the middle or a little past that (left) and you should be there.
Then, when you want to go back to an inverted flat spin, all you need to do is slide the ailerons back to the right.

My directions were assuming right rudder, right aileron and down elev. for the inv. flat spin.
