Default finishing up my new Monocoupe

I'm putting the finishing touches to my new Kagne Monocoupe. I have assembled 20 some ARF's and the quality of this plane is the best I've seen. With the exception of a few supplied hardware items the quality is outstanding. I bucked the four stroke trend and mounted an Irvine .72 and about 9 ounces was needed up front to balance the plane. Here are some pictures of the near finished product.

Just a question, I always hear about the engines needing airflow, now this may seem stupid, but there seems to be only inlet and no outlet. Is this acceptable? I always thought to keep the engine cool you need 1 to 2, inlet to exhaust.

the fiberglas cowl is larger than the main cowl and there is a 1/8" "gap" all around the cowl. You can't really see this in any of the pictures. There is also a hole I cut out in the bottom where the pitts style muffler exhaust tubes stick out.

my turn for a question

i noticed that the needle valve is down in the cowling, how in the world do you get in there to adjust it?

also what about choking the engine??

these are the things that ive allways wondered about

do you have on-board glo driver?

I intend to add an extension to my high speed needle valve and this along with breaking in my new engine are the last things I need to do. I plan on removing the fiberglas (outer) cowl and leave it off for the first half dozen flights or so and once the engine seems to be running well and no further adjustments needed to the low speed needle I will put it back on. I have the Hanger 9 remote glow plug adapter on the engine. I have the same remote glow plug on 2 other planes with good results. As far as choking the engine there are a several things I can do. I have a new radio that has an engine shut off button that when pushed completely closes the carberator. I've also made small cork plugs that I could insert into the carberator, which I can fully reach from the front. I add the plug and hand turn the prop and when I see fuel running to the carb I remove the plug add the glo starter and start the engine. I see they also sell caps that fit over carbs for storage that I believe would work also. I probably could just run my electric starter until I see fuel going into my carb but I prefer other methods and after the engine is run once it should stay primed the rest of the day.

Looks really nice gnirwin, I bought 2 of the SK80 engines based on the performance shown on review video of the plane. I haven't had a chance to try them yet. [8D][8D]

Fastsky, I saw a couple of days ago when reading another thread that you had 2 of the sk 80's listed as engines you own. Please keep us informed as to how the engines run. I would be very interested in the sk .50 size if the engines turn out to be good performers. Also, I just finished the build and have not yet flown a Modeltech P47 that I installed a Magnum 91 FS in.

gnirwin - i didn't do the calculations but i don't think that would translate to a 1 to 2 inlet, exhaust ratio... i guess it doesn't really matter, right? as long as you have that huge hole in the front, airflow is less important. (?)

yes, I think I'm ok, the gap between the cowl and the fuselage is actually greater tha 1/8" and I do have a large cut out in the bottom where the exhaust exits.

Nice job on this - I'm just finishing mine now and need some guidance on the screws used. Do you know the size/measure for the wheel bolts? I need to order longer ones and am having a hard time matching the measurements up to anything. Any confirmation of size/ordering would be helpful for all the screws on the model, but particularly for the wheel bolts and cowl screws.
Thanks a lot.

I've just purchased one of these and am very pleased with it.

Am going to fit Saito 100 Twin in it.

Can't wait to get it finished and into the air.

techfueldog,
yeh, I had a problem with the length on these screws too. What I did was I bought some longer #8 screws and bolts at the local hardware store. The #8's replace the metric size nicely.
