Default Ultracote / Oracover

I was of the impression that the major difference between Ultracote/Oracover and Monkote was based how the color is attained. Ultracote/Oracover color is in the film . Monokote the color is in the adhesive. Having spent the last two days covering with Ultracote I found that the color is actually in the adhesive same as Monokote. Has the process changed or did I get the wrong info.
At one point I lifted a piece after tacking it in place and pulled off all the color.

Although the two products are a little different, I believe the basic technology is the same. Ultracote and oracover are exactly the same (different names for the same product). Monokote is a little different.

I think you must have gotten a bit of Monokote mixed up with your Ultracote. I can remove and move Ultracote without the color coming off, but Monokote will almost always leave the color behind.

ultracote oracover and hobby lobbys polycover are all the same..hobby's is the least expensive. these coverings are best with foam wings ..they are lo temp and strtech easy and less brittle than momocote. If you get transparent colors the weight of the material is even lighter.horizon sells ultracote which used to be goldberg now marketed as hanger 9. I have used momokote as well and I think it just depends on your personal preferences and cost.but the polycovering is inexpensive and works at lo temp which is a good thing since I do work with foam..

I use Oracover / Ultracote exclusively on all my planes I build, from ARF re-covers to Cardens. It is by far the best covering, easy to apply and if the right amount of heat is applied during the process, it will never wrinkle later on, even when exposed to desert sun.

Monokote's recipe changed a while back, it has become much harder to work with, requires core-of-the-sun heat settings on the heat gun to get it to shrink and just does not behave like it used to. I can cover a full 80" built up wing in 1/2 hour with UC, it takes me 2X that with MK.

Thanks guys,
I did manage to get my 40% Edge covered. The plane came out a lot better than I expected. My technique got a whole lot better toward the end.
