Default How to setup Airbrakes?

Hello,

I have a Hobbico Extra 300 ARF with an OS .91 Suprass engine (4 stroke) and I would like to know, please, if anyone knows how to setup the elevator and airlons for Airbrake.

Thank you!

When i first looked at that pic, i thought the plane was actually flying.

Well, here's how i do mine. When the ailerons go down-the elevator goes up. And vice-versa.

Down ailerons can be dangerous by allowing the plane to tip stall early.
Using up ailerons you will get extra wing washout allowing the plane to fly slow safer.

Yep. But down ailerons are flaperons.

That is a sweet extra, im going to get myself an extra!!

I have just setup my wot 4 for ailerons to go up as much as possible without any movement on the tail, I might dial in some down elevator to pitch the plane down a small bit to keep it from stalling..

When the ailerons go down the elevator goes up...

Does that mean i dial in some elevator to the airbrake setting on my radio?will this not make the nose pitch up or is it just counter acting the ailerons?

Thanks,
Hakko

Hakko

I have a WOT 4 built with the optional outsize ailerons which I can dial down for flapperon effect. I find ifIi use full down then they will no longer act as ailerons and cannot use them to keep wings level if a gust upsets landing approach.

Several times I nearly lost it and had to rapidly reduce the down flap setting to regain aileron authority. I hardly ever bother now as it lands slowly enough without this.

Try using the tail to keep plane level . Or if your radio has it use the flap mix and when the flaps are down they still act as ailerons .

If you have quad flaps you can set up a crow mix if your transmitter has enough mixes or a built in butterfly mix.

I had the same problem with flaperons in that when the flaps were fully deployed the ailerons stopped working. It was easy to fix. I originally set up the flaps to drop as far as the ailerons could go down. I changed the mix so the flaps were about 50% so the ailerons could still move.

On light planes, flaps are fun to fly around with. They allow the plane to hover in a slight breeze. But I've found flaps to be counter-productive to landing a light plane. In fact, I sometimes make the flaps go up to kill lift which makes the plane come down a little more predictably with less tendency to float.
