Hi,
I was wondering if i could use a digital scales such as here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...760073066&rd=1

to make sure that my blades are of equal weight. It says that these scales are accurate to within 0.1gram

Just thought that if it can be used it would be good for balancing paddles and such also?

One way...

Check the balance with a short round metal rod side-by-side for CoG balance. (like two parallel see-saws).
Add weight to the lighter end to make both have the same CoG...

Bolt them together at the middle with a piece of offcut or something and put the rod between them (like a long see-saw).
If you add weight, add it at the CoG.

(CoG = center of gravity).

That will get a very accurate balance.

I made a balancer out of a couple of large paperclips. One is used to make a support for the blades to keep them horizontal, the other is used as the balance axis. Works well.
Be sure to check COG is the same for both blades also.

Blade Balancers are not that expensive so why mess with some home made thing that is marginal at best I use the Kyosho blade balancer and do static and dynamic balancing on all my blades and know for sure that they are right on.You spend a ton of money on heli's why would you scrimp on blade balancers when they are just as important to get right???Makes no sense at all!!![sm=confused.gif]

I dont mean using the scales as a replacement for a blade balancer, but to be used with it to double check and confirm that the blades are of equal weight.

But maybe if the blades are balanced on the proper balancer its all just a waste of time using the scales?

I did not mean to sound grouchy but no you don't have to weigh blades if you use a Kyosho because static balance has to do with the heavier blade and adding weight to the lighter blade.Sorry if I sounded grouchy did not mean to

I can see that the kyosho balance will do the same thing as the scales, my question is accuracy. Will the kyosho blace balancer gt it to within 0.1g?

I know that these listed methods are the right way to go, but if you dont ask questions, you never learn

I have two heli's and balance all my blades on the Kyosho and have had no problems at all but I do both static and dynamic balancing so I would say if you have the money get the Kyosho I think it is the best way to go.

I have never used this scale but I would think it would be far far more accurate that a tenth of a gram. I was just at Tower Hobbies sight and they are not available until some time in April. Moe where did you get yours?

Could you please link me to the exact kyosho balancer that you are refering to? Will this be ok for micro heli's like my zoom/shogun 400?

I have looked everywhere and Tower is the only place I could find it on the net the link is http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXBYK8&P=7 the only thing is I hate to depend on tower they are famous for saying that they will have it by a certain time and as that time gets close they move it back further.I would check around your local hobby shops and see if they carry any of the Koyosho products because it is a good bet that they could get it otherwise you will have to depend on Tower[:'(].Also I balanced my shogun blades on it before I sold the Shogun so the answer to your question is yes and with a little inventive working you can even balance tail rotor blades.

Yes but can you static and dynamic balance your blades I doubt it and so your blades might be balanced but not matched and that makes all the difference so you are only getting half of what you need!!!!That is unless you don't care???[X(]

I tried to balance my home made blades unsuccesfully, so I tried to understand both your methods, (unsuccesfully too). Can you please rephrase your instructions? Some photos would help a lot.

I bought a digital scale from www.radicalrc.com just for that reason (for $30 US) which, as you mentioned, has a .1 gram resolution, and a weight limit of up to about 500 grams. It works as advertised, but you may find that .1 gram is not a high enough resolultion for what you want because for a rotor blade that small, a .05 difference in weight (.1 rounded off) might be significant. A resolution of .01 might be more appropriate (those are also available on radical.com for nearly the same price, with a weight limit up to 150 grams) . You might be better off taking the advise of others and doing the "balancing act" rather than the weighing by itself. In addition, from what I have read, two blades having the same weight, may have their center of gravity at different locations (weight concentration at a different distance from the hub), and a scale won't help you there.
