Servos, 79" Yak ARF. What do I have to have?
I picked up one of the 79" Yaks in Toledo. I need to decide on servos for this beast. I don't have the cash for digitals. I have one HS-645MG that is well within the recommended ratings. I also have a couple Futaba digital 9252s which are on the low end of the servo specs. If I could run them on 6V, I'm sure they'd do fine but Futaba rx's don't like Hitec servos when used on 5 cell packs so that would eliminate the 645. I've been pretty happy with Futaba 3010s but they are on the low end rating even at 6volts. I have a few 9202s that are rated 98in-oz torque at 6V. That would put me close. Whats my best options here? I thought 9252s on elevators, 9202s on ailerons and a 148 on throttle but I'm still left short a rudder servo. In order to use a 6V pack, I need to stay with a Futaba servo or I could use the HS-645MG and get another Hitec RX because they don't seem to have any problem with 6V packs.

I started with 645s and then went to 945s on mine. The 945s are extremely fast and powerful and resistance is futile for the control surfaces. Hitec really has some awesome new servos out and I've got 4 of the new 69xx series Karbonite gear ones on order for my next giant profile. So far my experience with the smaller karbonite gear servos has been outstanding. They are quiet, smooth, and absolutely ZERO slop. Something I find very attractive on these funflys with extreme throws. Bottomline is get a good servo (metal gear or the new karbonite) with at least 120 or better in-oz of torque.

Mike, That wasn't the answer I was looking for[&:]
I was trying to get by fairly inexpensively on this one. I just spent over 2K on my 87" EF Yak so I was looking for a more cost effective approach. I guess I'll have to go to the HS-5645 digitals or something close.

You don't have to go digital at all. Basically you need a strong gear train such as metal gears with about 90-120 in/oz of torque. Lots of good servos fit that category. The Hitec 645MGs would be excellent choices.
