Default TAMIYA NITRO XBG running on a dusty parking lot...

Hello everyone.

I am waiting for a TAMIYA XBG to arrive from Germany and I'm making plans on possible terains where I could run my 1/10.

The strongest possibility is to play with my nitro car on dirty parking lot which is covered by a thin layer of dust.
WARNING: The lot is not covered with tarmac! It is pure soil, but on the other hand it is very steady.

My question is: Is all this dust painful for my car? Will it make any damages to the motor, gears, pinion etc?

I remind you that the XBG series from TAMIYA is available by default with radial tires, an open driver window and has its power transmitted via a shaft, not a belt.

In case where you suggest me to run the model without any problems, do you think that I should first make some improvemnents such as tires, air filter, servos protection etc?

Really thank you in advance!!!!

well i think runing any car or truck on dust, dirt, etc. could mess up the gears if its not coverd up. and yes i would highly recomend a airfilter. those thing comes in hand my truck has one and when i get done driving it the filter is all dirty. and no the dirt wouldnt really mess up the engine. but if dirt starts to build up on it then it might be a problem.

why would he not be running a car with an air filter. the first thing i learnt when i started nitro cars was not to run without the airfilter. anyway, what style of car is it?

I mentioned the air filter not as an improvement option but as standard. This is for sure!

But, I thought, that I could use special air filters for dusty enviroments in order to protect my engine from swallowing dust and dirt.

The model-style of the car is WRC FORD FOCUS '03.

Thank you guys [&:]

cool car. would not think it would have probs in car park as long as it is not too dusty. you might want to seal servos/reciever as it can screw it up

The biggest factor with dirt is after-run maintenance. Clean it thoroughly and you won't have many problems. You may need to do more maintenance on bearings as they can get fouled with dirt. Soak em and re-oil.

Never ever run without an air filter. Make sure to get some air-filter oil so you can clean and re-oil the filter.

I would suggest a fuel filter, unless of course the fuel tank has one built-in. With the amount of dust that the car will attract on running on such a surface, the possibility of dust getting into the fuel is greatly increased. The fuel filter should filter any dust out of the fuel before it reaches the engine. Basically you want to stop anything other than fuel, oil and air getting into the engine, as even minute particles can ruin it. That means cleaning dust/dirt off the engine before you remove the glow plug, airfilter etc, just to be on the safe side.
