RE: OMP Profile Tetherite Landing Gear
I would say the Tetherite gear is a few grams heavier.
BUT most people do get the Tetherite in addition to the plane. The aluminum is good enough ... but it bends pretty easy. But for $115 .... it's more then worth it for everything you get.
The Tetherite promo is only $9.95 with the plane and shipping included. You won't regret it.

I have to agree with Dion. I don't know where we would be without tetherite! Great gear and worth the extra couple of grams.

The tetherite gear is worth every gram in endurance and the fact it will save your plane and props during those harrier landings (is there any other kind of landing?). The gear will add roughly 3 inches to the stance over the stock aluminum gear. this is also much needed for grass flyers.

RE: OMP Profile Tetherite Landing Gear
I am considering modifing the stock gear as follows.
Drill a small hole in the center of each side approx 3" down from the fuse.
Run music wire between these holes with a wheel collar on the end.
This should greatly strenghten the gear with minimal added weight.
Anny coments, should this work. If It don't I can always order the tetherite gear.

I'd say anything is worth a try and this technique has been done in other landing gear setups. Problem is going to be you will give up any and all springyness the gear offers up to the rest of the airframe. You need a certain amount of shock absorbing characteristics with a landing gear system.
