Default Covering over Filler

Hi All,

I'm at the stage of preparing to cover a Cessna O-1E BirdDog scratch-built from RCM Plans. The fuse sides are 1/8" ply with a 1/32" ply turtledeck and balsa belly and front decks. I'll need to fill in some dings and gouges that occured during the building process and I want to use that Lite Spackle or equivalent, then sand it flush. My question is: Will the white filler show through the Monokote as pen marks will or can I get away with just covering over the fuse? Should I prime the fuse first so as to achieve a uniform color under the covering?

Any experience would be greatly appreciated.

I went through this a while back... My white filler did show through the white Ultracote. I found a tube of brown paint pigment at the hardware store (...failing this, you might be able to get the paint guy to give you a squirt of the stuff they use to tint latex paint). A couple drops mixed with the filler (...the white, light weight stuff made by DAP) gave me a nice balsa-like tan color that was invisible under the covering.

I bought some blasa colored filler. I think it was slightly more expensive but cheaper than the cost of paint. I can't tell the difference through yellow ultracote.

Go with a balsa colored filler like hobbico or model magic. Haven't had a problem showing through white or yellow monokote.

Cinnamon, Huh? I like it, not only will the plane look great, but I can use it as an air freshener!

Thanx for all the tips, I'll let you know how it comes out...

Oops! I meant to say I CAN'T tell the difference under yellow ultracote. Sorry for the misinformation.
