Attaching a belly pan
I am assembling a U-Can-Do 60.
There is a belly pan that needs to be attached.
The instructions suggest 6 minute epoxy.
I imagine I could make a pretty good mess with that.
Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions/advice?
How 'bout RC56?
Thanks!
JLK

RE: Attaching a belly pan
My Sportsman Aviation Excelleron 50 manual calls for silicone sealant to mount the belly pan to the underside of the wing.
I wasn't convinced that silicone would stand much glow fuel exhaust so I installed it with the old standby - 5 minute epoxy. I only did it this way because I just wasn't sure about the silicone holding up over the long run.
Someone may be able to tell us if silicone sealant can withstand glow fuel residue?
Scott.

RE: Attaching a belly pan
Scott,
Thanks for the reply.
I went ahead and attached it with RC56 this weekend. I ran a filet around the entive belly pan and smoothed it with my finger tip wiping off the excess.
It looks very good.
We'll see if it stays on!
Thanks again!

RE: Attaching a belly pan
jlkonn,
I'm interested in how the RC56 holds up. I've tried the product on a canapy but didn't seem like it would hold well enough so I ended up using screws instead.
When you installed the bellypan did you remove the covering (on both the wing and bellypan) to get a wood to wood contact or are you trying to see if it will stick on the Monokote? That would make life much easier if Monokote removal wasn't required!
Let us all know how it works out.
Scott.
