Champ
I sold a pretty nice Nosen Champ last year. I heard that the fellow who purchased it had passed away a couple of months ago. Nice fellow, a retired airline pilot who flew one in his youth. It is for sale for the wife's benefit. If you have any interest, let me know, and I'll see if it is still available. The wing was built two piece, with the center section on one side. The center section bolts to the fuselage. Would be good with a gasser or a 1.20 four stroke. I had a 1.08 on it and it took a lot of nose weight. Flew well once aileron differential was set up, and mixing of 10% rudder with aileron. Very effective rudder. The plans didn't even lay out ailerons. Covered with Sig koverall, and latex, with a glass cowl. It should last forever. The man who bought it from me just hung it up, and never flew it. It has the servos, and 6V battery still installed. If it hasn't been sold yet it would probably run between four and five hundred dollars US. I have a friend who knows the friend of the deceased who is selling the model stuff. [email protected]

Champs/Cubs/others
Cubs are great.. Cubs are kewl.. But how about some things as
Champs.. How about some things as TriPacers, Colts, Funks, etc.
With the recent T-Craft entry and seeing how many of them have
flown out the door I would think the marketing departments of
these places would get the hint... MORE plane types.. !

Yes! produce something new that is "old" such as the Cessna Taildragger series (140, 170, 180, 185).
How many kit sales does it take to make a product successful?

Champ
I have the Aeronca Bud Nosen Champ. A friend in my RC club gave it to me for free so I could try out a SuperTigre 2500 on gas that I bought. It needs some slight repairs, which I've been working on. I haven't flown it yet. I was interested to hear that the airplane doesn't turn well on just ailerons and rudder must be included. Are there any other tips on flying this airplane? Bob Lloyd

It can be set up to turn well on ailerons only, but you MUST have differential set up. Use mostly up, and very little down. If you have the capability to mix electronically at the transmitter, I found about 10% rudder mixed with ailerons worked well.

I forgot about the Cessna 180...what a beautiful airplane and the possibilities are endless...floats, skis, tundra tires, wheel pants. I always thought the 180 was a man's airplane...tough looking!
Ah, but all too unnoticed by modelers! Why?

By the way, my Bud Nosen Aeronca Champ has a three piece wing--the center section, which is bolted to the fuselage, and the two end panels, that are fastened with aluminum tubing. It also flies with functional struts--these MUST be used. Bob Lloyd

Looking for an Aeronca Champ
I built a Nosen Champ for a friend of mine some years ago. It was only about my 2nd or 3rd kit, so that speaks for the ease of building. Wood wasn't the best but plans and instructions were ok. I've got a picture of it framed up somewhere that I can post later. I remember the two piece wing and aluminum spar.
BTW, you can get Brian Taylor's 62 inch Cessna 120 plans from Bob Holman in California. FG cowl, moulded windshield.

Looking for an Aeronca Champ
I am building a Nosen 8' Champ. Washing out the wing makes the ailerons as effective as on full scale from what I understand. As for rudder it should be used in turns to overcome the induced drag of the lifting aileron. My understanding is that they fly much like the real thing. I used to tow arial banners behind a 100 hp champ, what a beautiful airplane. I plan on using a Maloney 125 on the Nosen Champ. Would love to hear from others that own or have built them. This is my first kit.
Work is proceding nicely on this kit.

Looking for an Aeronca Champ
I am building a Champ also. I found I had to replace quite a bit of 'die crushed' wood. I also found the plans and written directions lacking in detail. It is without a doubt a 'builders kit'. I am putting on a 25cc Homelite conversion gas engine, so I had to replace the thin plywood firewall with 1/4" good stuff. In the kit I recieved, the wing aluminum tube had been replaced with hardwood dowels for more strength. I cut in the ailerons and made mounts for wing servos. I'm just about ready to put all the hardware/radio stuff in and see how it balances. I have a feeling it will be WAAAYYY nose heavy, so will have to deal with that too.
Once I get it done, I think it will be a pleasure to fly. At our field, we have 2-full size Champs. I am useing one of them to do the trim by.
Good luck......Bipeguy....

Looking for an Aeronca Champ
This thread kinda died out, but hopefully someone out there is still listening. I'm in the planning stages of doing the Nosen kit. Has anyone done an L-16 (military version) from the Nosen Champ kit?

RickVB...
I did a "search" for the Champ and found several pictures of different variations including the military one, but I don't know of anyone who has done it. To me it doesn't look any different except for the colors, but I wasn't looking for that one so didn't dig into it.
Have fun with it....it's a challenge to build.
