China Lake F-86?
Just came across Greggs F-86 in the classifieds and was wondering if that is a scale paint scheme for a Sabre because it sure looks great.
Thanks,
Roman

Roman,
Not sure if it's scale or not but I saw it first hand at the Shreveport jet rally and that picture doesn't do it justice. Up close the F-86 looks really nice and with that paint scheme it is very eye catching. Although it didn't fly at the event it surely would have looked sweet in the air.

As the maintenance officer for them and the other aircraft at NWC '77 - '79, none were painted such. It took a long while to get the ROK insignia off and paint NWC on the tail; later some may have received the paint scheme, but only after the full conversion to a QF-86. CDR Knutsen did a flyover of the USAFA, but another aircraft had to accompany him because the F-86 was not fully capable to fly in IMC. In Aug '79 LCDR Ted Faller was killed when his F-86 caught fire on t/o with LT Rosemary Conatser on wing. Ther were only 3 other pilots at NWC, at the time, who flew the QF-86, CAPT Will Haff, LCDR Bob Reusche, and one other LCDR.

The FJ Fury "Scale and Detail" book has a photo of an FJ-3 in the Utility Squadron color scheme shown in the first post. If you can't locate the book let me know and I can try to scan the photo and email it to you.
