Catalina as a twin trainer??? - YES !!!
Yesterday I made first succesfull flight with my Catalina (discontinued Kyosho ARF, ~70 inches wingspan, two Magnums XL15A). I'm very satisfied with the plane. Two tiny engines - but the sound of heavy bomber. Everybody at the lake came to watch. [sm=thumbup.gif]
I have to say, that after careful run in, and tuning I have barely no problems with Magnums. Even when initially I had some problems with water aspects of take off (the mounting angle of the engines was too straight - they need to head a little upwards and when I throttled up the nose tended to sink) and props melted water - the engines never failed.
Finally after couple of tries I took off and during the rest of flight only half throttle was necessary to fly. Catalina is a plane very easy to control. After some trimming flies like a high wing trainer. For now I didn't try any tricks with one engine, but I think there is no problem.
We had two cameras so I'll try to make some video. For now I made a quick "[link=http://www.organy.com.pl/modele/catalina_teaser.wmv]teaser trailer[/link]" with a short history of my Catalina (5.4MB, 1min11s, WMV9). Turn the sound on!

Here the new video:

Unbelievable - engines are just tiny .15-s but the sound of two working together is great !!! Especially on lower rpm's Catalina sounds very scale crusing low over the water...
