Default Cadad-air CL-215

Hello,

I'm new to this forum, and technically new to model Aircraft, I'm primarily a Robot Builder and RC Car dude.

What I'm looking for is a kit or plans to build a Canad-air CL-215 Seaplane, yes the firefighting airplane. Since I'm new to this I have no idea where I would find a kit or plans, and was hoping you more experienced guys might be able to help me.

Thanks in advance,

Default Canadair CL-215 or CL-415

I know of 2 kits available. One is from "G and P Sales" its a 81" wing with twin .40's. The other is from "Beldone Models" a 72" CL-415 wich is basically a 215 but with turpo-prop engines instead of the radials. So the engine nacelles are a bit different. It's also made for electric but can convert it to glow. There adresses are...

I think you can get a short kit of this 415. Two are being built in our club.

http://www.mraerodesign.com/

He's in Quebec Canada, but the plans look quite good and the short kit was quite acceptable to a long-time builder.

I think it was RCM that had plans for the radial engine version of the 215 using a pair of twentyfives sometime in the past.

If you want to see a photo of a "aerodesign" version go to www.rccanada.ca .Go to the gallery,to planes ,to page 6 .
This one was built by Terry Mortimore of our club, and is tricked out in full scale colors, copying one of the Province of Ontario fleet based here in the Soo.It isnt finished yet as you can see and hasnt flown.
You did say this was your first rc aircraft? If so dont even think about taking on a project like this or trying to fly it if you do,cause YOU WILL SMASH IT!This isnt IMO its a fact.

Kevin,

Thanks for the link to the photo, looks like a quality model. I've built and flown a few electric powered gliders when I was a lot younger. I have the experience to build the plane, but your right when it comes to flying I would have to buy a trainer and get the help of an experienced friend to learn how to fly it. I probably won't actually buy a model for a while since I'm in the middle of a robot redesign and need to focus on that.

Thanks,

P.S. Thanks to everyone else for the links and info, if anyone else knows of a different place to get a model please post it, I like having options.

Default Canadair 215 plans

Model Airplane News has a set of plans available for this plane. The plan number is FSP05801. Wingspan 76", length 55" and it uses two .25 engines.

Good luck!!

Bill Price of G&P Sales has CL-415 engine nacelles available now...if you beg. I made the plug and he made the molds...he dropped off the first set of nacelles for my 215 for conversion. He also has a VHS tape showing how to build the ship if that helps $24.95 last time I looked.

Matthew, you can get the drawings for 63†CANADAIR 415 turbo prop version from the Flying Models magazine published in Dec. 2000.

Hey,

Wow I cannot believe that after almost 3 years this thread is still going, way to go guys.

I actually found this guy in Canada, Martin Rousseau (http://www.mraerodesign.com/cl415/CL415.html) who has designs possibly the best scale kits I've ever seen (and I did a lot of web searching). He currently only offers the 415 but I do not like the look of the 415 so I contacted Martin to see if he could adjust the plans and make a 215. Martin responded letting me know that he had been contracted by some air museum to construct two 215 but had not yet finished the kit. This was earlier this year around the month of march, I have not contacted him since so for all I know the kit may be finished.

I currently started a car restoration project so building a model is going to have to wait for a while. When i do start building one of his kits you can bet that I will post the progress here.

Thanks Everyone!
Matthew LaBerge
