Clutch Shoes
So I think I may have to get some new clutch shoes and a new clutch spring as my truck seems to be jerky upon acceleration. What would you suggest from tower hobbies (thats where I always order from) I thought I had seen a 3 shoes blue metal set, but now I cant seem to find it. Would 3 shoes be better than 2? What would the difference be? Would I possibly need a different clutch bell? Is there a way to actually adjust the clutch springs?
Can anyone tell me what the stock clutch bell tooth count is? And what would you recomend for a tooth count? With the stock spur gear. Anyhow, my question was about the clutch shoes. Suggestions would be welcomed ....thanx

RE: Clutch Shoes
If the blue three shoe clutch you saw was the integy clutch, avoid it like the plague it is a huge waste of money unless you like replacing shoes after every couple of runs. the stock shoes work great for me. I would reccomend sticking with the stock fiber shoes. Adjusting the clutch spring is as easy as cutting it shorter and bending a new loop in the end. Shortening it will give you a higher stall meaning the clutch won't engage until you hit higher RPMs. If you wanted a lower stall you could stretch it a bit, but I've never heard of anyone wanting a lower stall.
Is this a t-maxx, if so the stock bell is 20 tooth for a new style maxx (I'm not sure on the old style max), which is just fine for most bashers. If you want more acceleration then drop to a 19 or 18 toothe bell. If you want more top end you could go 22 tooth, but I wouldn't. If you just want to adjust the ratio a bit you are better off changing the tooth count on the spur, because changes to the bell count are more drastic.

RE: Clutch Shoes
Perfect, Thats what I wanted to see, ya, I was talking about the 3 shoes you mentioned, but I dontl ike to replace any parts that often..lol. Thanx for the info.
right now I am trying to figure out what gears to getfor inside the gearbox. I stripped the forward primary gear somehow, so I orderd a metal one, so I figured if one is metal I may as well keep going, but there are so many different names and numbers..lol.. I think I have some orderd 2 times. Oh well, as long as the one I need shows up, I guess I can go from there..lol.
Thanx for your help man.
yes T-maxx 2.5

I'm using the [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGBC4&P=7]Hot Bodies aluminum clutch for the Tmaxx[/link]. It's way better than the stock fiber clutch, and IMO is worth every cent. It's a direct replacement for the stock clutch, and hooks up soooo much stronger. A definate improvement over the stock clutch, and almost necessary if running a larger than stock engine.
I've tried a 3-shoe aluminum clutch on my Tmaxx that was made by GARC and it sucked.............Big time. What a piece of crap. Don't ever buy that thing. It wore out very quickly, and required a ton of maintainance. Here's a link of what NOT to buy!!!! [link=http://www.greatassemblyrc.com/Store_Detail.cfm?ID=114502&InfoID=3573]CLICK for trash.[/link]

RE: Clutch Shoes
Those same blue Alum shoes that you said were good are the ones I have on order right now. Im waiting on shipment. I have the .21 ThunderTiger Engine. Someone said the same thing to me about the aftermarket engines needing a "better" clutch set up. I just got this truck used not to long ago so I am still feeling out the Do's and donts. Thank you for your opinion.

RE: Clutch Shoes
So I just got my clucth shoes in and Im about to install them, I see that they also include 2 washers, *** would they be fore? Would you put them on the 2 little clutch mounts to space the shoes from the flywheel? Thats the only place I can see to put them, so I guess thats where they will go. The old clutch didnt have any and this is why I ask.

Because the shims go on the pins between the shoes and the flywheel, just like stated above.

RE: Clutch Shoes
back to the initial issue, are you sure that the jerk on acceleration isn't just the internal clutch for forward? it's supposed to be a bit jerky when you're going slow...
