Default Motor still hot!

I had my pk2 pro originally geared in at 24, 88 and the motor was scorching hot. I geared down to 21 88 and the motor still seems to be really hot. Why is this. My diff has been making a slight short grinding sound everytime I hammer the throttle does that have something to do with why my motor is so hot? Should I try the 81 toothe with 23 tooth?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Help me urgently so I can get out and shred!

Thanks, Shredder111[>:]

the engine should be hot to the touch, they normally operate in the 230 to 250 degree range. as to the diff, i have no idea

Are we talking nitro or electric? The reason I am saying that is the high number on the spur gear.

If ur diff is grinding, pull it open and have a look, You might have a tooth missing, or it might just need re-greasing

When you dropped all the way to 21 you might have gone too far. I did that with my car. I was originally overheating because I was drawing too much current carrying the high gear out of the corners but when I dropped too far I was turning the motor at full rpms too much of the time (same effect on heat but a different cause). Try a 22 or 23 and see if it's better.

Also, if you have ANY grinding noise from a diff you should definitely look into it - any friction in the drivetrain will definitely add to your motor heat. Also make sure all of the bearings/bushings anywhere in the drivetrain are properly lubed.

Another also - double check the pinion/spur gear mesh (there should be a tiny amount of play). You can check by moving the spur gear - it should have a tiny amount of movement before turning the pinion. If there is no play you are creating side friction on the motor bearings and preventing the armature from moving freely - that will overheat a motor quick.

if the comm is starting to look discoloured then its geared wrong, also i think you would start to get abit hot operating at 20000+rpm
