They "straighten" the airflow out as it enters the carb throat. With the air flowing in a much straighter path it also gains speed so it will help "pack" the cylinder and ports with more fuel/air mixture per cycle.
Yes they do make a difference.

only if they are tuned or the correct shape, the funnel jobs they sell are worth up to an 8% loss of flow over an open carb throat.

I agree with Fastrat. Think I got one or two of em collectin dust somewheres. Try holdin yer thumb over one to choke the engine. An dey do'nt even make good pencil holders! HA! Brian

I figured as much about the Stacks that I have seen all over.
The real question is has anyone had any on a flow bench and actually found one that does work.
