Default Quality Fiberglass C-130

..just in the nick of time for this forum. I ordered mine last week and it should be here by then end of this week. I am pretty excited about 4 engines. I have multi-engine experience but nothing like this. I have also ordered the Skip Mast plans so that I can build the fowler flaps and operable cargo ramp. I went ahead and also ordered the custom retracts from Gene Barton. I am thinking of going with the .25FX for power. Four strokes are a little pricey if you have to buy 4 of them! Besides, I don't remember a C-130 having a putt-putt sound to it. I looked at the JHH C-130 but it is quite expensive and I figured I would start small first (if a 101" wing span is small!) I have done a search for this particular model on RCU and a few people have talked about building one but I have not seen any pictures or flight reports. I will be sure to post construction updates with pictures. I hope to have it done by Feb. 2 for the big model expo/show over here. Anyway I think this forum is a great idea and I hope there is a lot of intrest!

Hey guys, I look forward to reading and seeing more about your projects. I'm especially interested in how you do the Fowler flaps. ...Great!

Mike:

Am toying with idea of using 'Air Cylinders" /w bellcranks for the flaps.....can make adjustments on the bellcrank if the throw is too much or too little...That will eliminate 3 serovos for flaps..only need only to make them work......Found 4 Rhom-Aior cylinders in my storage box and will check them out to see if they work...Like I said, just toying with the idea...will be awhile before I get to the flaps.....BTW,will be using 2 recievers..........

Great to hear about your c-130. I am about 80% built on a quality Fiberglass kit. Everything is looking good. I started out to go with 4 .25 glow but a couple of months into the project decided to go with electric. Will be using 4 Mega-Motors and 40 cells. I have flaps also and am having a little trouble with the mechanism I designed to activate; I will have to do a little rework. I chose coast guard colors and the paint method I used turned out great. Let me know if you would like to know about that. Did you get wing cores from Quality Fiber? My kit was the second fuse laid-up in the mold. Have you finished fiberglass fuse before?

Default C-130.....

Gentlemen......If you guys really want to make a "true" fowler flap system........go with Jackscrew actuators...2 on each side would do it.....I'm not sure who makes them but Dave Platt has extensive experience with them...might want to give him a call.....Bill.....

Jimmy,

FYI, if you need some detail shot's of 130's, I'm a QA Aircraft inspector @ Niagara Falls AFB. We currently have -H models, but I've worked on -A's & -E's also. Started life as a loadmaster, went to structural repair (sheetmetal) & ended up in QA some 20 years later.

Feel free to contact me off list.

Bob
