Hey bugman how many times did you have to replace the reeds? I had one that the reeds were only good for about 2 gals. would not turn a 24x8 very good either.

Hi,

No reed replacement on any of the engines. One engine had a broken reed holder upon delivery which was replaced on warranty. AI sent me a new holder as per my request and I replaced it rather than sending in the whole engine.

No experience with a 24 x 8. If you had a bad reed, that will seriously affect engine performance. My research planes are very hevy with wing loadings of 50 ozs and up so I use a Bolly 22 x 8 on the engines. Engines turn in the low 7ks on the ground.

Hands down DA!

When Taurus learns how to make/use a proper size muffler......then maybe Taurus.
The one that came with my 2.6 is a boat anchor used on there larger engines!

Hey Stomper, how much does the ts52 muffler weigh? Is it as heavy as a Slimline for a da50?

If it works, I dont consider that a boat anchor. Kent, how much does a stock DA muffler weigh?

I completely agree, buy one thats in stock! And build your plane as light as possible, I remember that the Midwest kits come out heavy, so toss the wood and get some contest balsa.

Thats it!

Buy the engine from a company that sells contest balsa, and that will save you on shipping.

Now wasn't that easy!

DA 50 Slimline is 8.9 ounces. I just weighed it on a very accurate scale.

Brison is not in business at the present time. The DA is a good engine but The Taurus engine, is the absolute best 50cc engine on the market.........Period. Just check the thread on this forum.
If Brison is not in business, they have a funny way of closing down.
Their website is up and running and they have a full page ad in the latest Model Aviation.

if your plane is under 17lbs. MVVS45, smoooother! and no rattling sounds like my da50 has even after all updates have been made,a lot faster throttle response and a little more power on the MVVS if over 17lbs. MVVS 58 i have had great service from DA never had to spend a dime more after buying from DA,the DA starts in one to three flips warm or cold
